Hey guys,

I just purchased two of the new '03 TT mirrors on ebay for a good price. The only problem is that the driver's side mirror is missing the glass.

Does anyone know if you can purchase just the glass, or does it only come with a complete mirror?

These mirrors are the heated ones with turn signals built in.

Any help is appreciated..

Any glass shop can fix them. Look up auto glass in the book and call for the best price.

 

Is the glass in the heated mirrors any different than the glass on the non heated mirrors? If so, I could just take the glass off of my old mirror, right?

The standard mirror replacement is $32 +/-

Well the mirror swap is complete, and they look GREAT!!!!!

Regarding my earlier question about the heated mirrors:

The heating element is actually in the glass assembly, so I am not able to use my old mirror glass. The wire for the heater actually plugs in to the back of the glass. I have placed my old mirror glass in to the new mirror until the replacement arrives.

I was able to order the replacement from http://www.genuine-ford-parts.com for $35. Thanks to Fordman4x4.

My only remaining question is the power supply for the heaters. I've read that some people have put in a switch, and others are using a relay. I tied mine in to power from the window switch, so they are on anytime the ignition is on.

Is this a problem? As small as the wire is going to the heater element, I can't imagine that there is much current being drawn, so I don't really see an issue with overheating the wiring, but I just want to make sure it isn't a problem.

Thanks... I'll be posting new pics soon (as soon as I get it washed). The only thing left on my immediate wish list are the new headlights. Just can't decide if I want the APC projector lights, or just go with the '03 style lights...

Kevin24-I cut the wiring harnesses off of my old mirrors to use on the new ones. Other than that, the mirrors are fine. If you are interested in them, just email me, and I'll let you have them for cheap. The paint on the extension arms is flaking off, but I'm sure they can be repainted..

 

New Guy Question...

Uh... come to think of it... i don't see a switch for my heated mirrors... so i'm wondering to myself... ARE THEY ON ALL THE TIME?

(heaven forbid i ever open the owner's manual...).
