Check your tires!

Can’t be said enough .... check them often.

Went to air up the tires on our new to us horse trailer and found a problem.

These are on tires made in 2012, which kind of surprised me.

As far as I know they were fine last time I used them.

Glad to find it now, rather than on the side of the road.

Nice job! Agreed on the tire inspection. I check mine for wear/air before each trip with my camper. In my book, ST tires get replaced 5 years from date code no matter what they look like. 8 years out of what looks like a Chinese ST tire on your trailer is pretty good!

That top picture looks like someone hit a curb with that tire.

Yup, they had a good run, but this one's giving up. I agree with TCNashville, 5 years max unless they've been removed, sealed in a bag, and stored in climate control for their long periods of storage . . . and even then you might see another two years of reliability out of them if you're lucky.

We just went on a trip where the first thing I had to do was change a tire that came apart. All five tires have at least 75% tread, but after tha5 flat, I am changing them all out. Going on 6 yr old.

ST Tires really should be replaced every 5 years or so regardless of the amount of tread left on them.

Yeah it kinda does but that's just the start of tread separation. 20 miles down the road and kaboom!

Can’t be said enough!

Found this on my car trailer today.

This is just not my year!

that said, I was on borrowed time and I brought this on myself.

A few years back the tire manufacturers recommended replacement every 3 years. Now changed to 6 years. A tire guy near me said that they are not using as much oil in the tires as they used to. And that the side wall cracking on my car trailer tires was due to the ":tire shine" products I was using to make it look beautiful. Stopped using the shiney tire stuff and know more tire replacement every year.

From my experience, that’s a real thing.

some of those products contain formaldehyde. So they do a nice job of penetrating and softening, but when the formaldehyde dries out, it also dries out whatever it was supposed to be protecting.

i had some tires years ago dry rot on me in the garage in less than two years. I sprayed them down with stuff to protect them and slowly over time they just dry rotted. I’ve never had that happen Since I stopped using that kind of stuff.

im actually fairly impressed with these how long these tires lasted. I’ve never done anything with them to clean or protect or cover them and the sidewalls are still really good. It’s mostly been outside it’s whole life and is rarely under cover so I really can’t complain. They lasted just shy of 12 years by the date code. I did notice some cracking in the tread groves this year so I was kind of watching them. But with That said, the cracking on my 12 year old trailer tires is still not as bad as the cracking in the treads on my 2 year old tires on my work truck, which is somewhat baffling.

got some new 205/75r15 LRD Carlisle Radial Trail HD on the way and 3 new rims. My spare rim is still really nice so I’m going to use that and the three new rims and have about 3 or four spares. The rims are really rusty and have big rust flakes on the inside so I think it is just best to get new ones. The local farm store was clearing them out for $25 each with the valve stems already mounted, so it is money well spent.

I was wondering about that 303. Just used it on wife's Grand Marquis.

I started using 303 on my trailer tires last year. I do keep them covered when the trailer is at the storage lot. The humidity level where I live is very low. 25% last night at 10 pm. I think I'm losing weight just walking around from the loss of body water.
