My 99 4.0 SOHC will not start - again. It cranks good. Oil pressure gauge reads ok while cranking. If I put a little gas in the intake then crank it, it will run and die. Sounds like it is not getting fuel to me! Fuel filter is OK. It first did this a couple of weeks ago. Has been OK until now. When I go back to it later, it'll probably start right up. Is there a history of fuel pump problems with these Explorers? Maybe its a electrical problem to the fuel pump? Any ideas where to start looking?
yeah try top have a buddy tap the fuel pump relay while you try top crank it..it if starts its the relay..if not you may need to look towards the fuel pump...that relay is located in the power dstrubution box in the engoine compartment, not sure where except on a 91-94...good luck
Good tip ThePheonixx2 ! I tried it and it worked so I swapped the fuel pump relay with the one for the rear wiper - It never works anyway! Let's see if that was it!
my buddy had the same promblem, took it to ford they said it was the computer, the computer was no telling the fuel pump to pump fuel, said he needed a new computer, hes taking it some were else is hopping its just a reley will keep you posted

Turn everything off, fasten your seat belt and THEN turn the key to the "ON" position and listen for the fuel pump to run a second or two. if you don't hear anything, start playing with the relay. Also make sure the Emergency Fuel Pump Switch didn't trip.
