Superduty Heater core replacement

This is the location of the hard to get at 8mm bolt

Empty glovebox, push in sides and let down out of way
re

Remove box with 8mm bolts, need swivel for bottom two.
Its a bit tricky, theres a hidden slot on too right corner, you have to push door to right and up to get loose , then it comes right out.
Remove vacuum line holder from Bottom

Next the blend door actuator must come out, 2 8mm bolts and a electrical connector

You may have to pry up a bit on the door connector to seperate

Here it is so you can see what you cant before removal

Next comes the mode actuator, two 8mm bolts are obvious

Lay it towards you to remove rod, pretty easy

Old core was not leaking but nearly plugged.

very frustrating the new motorcraft core did not come with new padding, so i had to use a bit of gorilla tape in order to reuse what I was able to remove from the old core.
i found this to be the case with my 89 as well, go figure the chinajunk cores come with foam.

Empty

Remove quick connects, i find works best with hands The remove the holders with small pick Now remove and replace core. Be sure to wrap up to prevent rattling and holes .

Put vacuum control back in first, unless you have an 8mm ratcheting wrench, because there isnt room to back off bolt on right with a socket

Then comes actuator

Socket on rear bolt, hard to get your hands in there to get started. I used a deepwell 1/4” drive socket with no extension

Back together, push vacuum lines back in holders

Thank you for the write up. Reps
Pictures say so much.

We have a saying on the Corvette forum, to build the vette @ the factory the 1st part they grab to start building the entire car around is the heater core. Glad the job appears doable in less than a full weekend

Just a bit of inspiration for those who have never made a career of automotive repair:

When it comes to car/light truck heater core replacement, these Super Duty F250-550s have the easiest and least invasive ones you'll ever get to replace.

The only thing easier is the 80-96 fords
this took about an hour
the 80-96 the procedure is the same but no actuators to move and no quick disconnects, take about 30 mins

try a jeep grand cherokee! Or 97-04 f150
