First, I did search the forum for current posts concerning the new update for the sync 3 system for our pickups. None found.
Experiencing issues extracting some of the files, specifically tar.gz files. Have tried two different computers and have tried extracting to the thumb drive and to a local folder on the computer. No difference.
I think its a new update. My MyFord app alerted me to it - JR3T-14G381-AS.
The more I read, the more I wonder. Truck has not been updated since purchase over a year ago - 2018 F150 Sport.
Im glad you posted this topic. This was the reason I logged in today. On the ford pass app it told me I have a sync 3 update available. When I click on it it sends me to my iphone's safari browser. When I click on the link from the browser, it tells me I need to log in from a PC to get the sync update. Which I understand because the last update I did was using a USB stick I had to transport from my PC to my truck. I got on my PC, and I cant find the Sync 3 software update anywhere. I use an app for my iPhone called "continue on PC" and from the ford site on my iphones safari browser that tells me theres an update and I need to use my PC, I send the page to my PC (laptop). Once its sent to my PC it says theres no update available. So here I sit and the same page on my phones browser and on the ford pass app is telling me theres a sync 3 update then when I go on my PC its telling me there is no update. So what gives?

I am assuming you have your pickup in your virtual garage at owner.ford.com (or whatever the address is).
Once logged in you go to owner home and make sure your pickup is listed as the vehicle, then you select support and then sync updates (my link is https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...p-to-date.html)

Yes, I know. We use these files in engineering and elsewhere. In this case the syncmyride subfolder is made exclusively of tar.gz files (7 files) and it is having an issue with two of them.
Update - started over today:
Reformated USB exFAT, unchecking quick format this time
Downloaded zip folder from owner site, extracted using built in windows 10 extraction tool
Moved extracted files to USB without error (SyncMyRide folder, plus autoinstall.lst and Sontindx.msa).
Not sure if the formatting made a difference, but have it loaded up on USB. Will try install later.

Ford really makes this difficult. It says NOTHING about unzipping the files before moving. I tried both before and after. No luck. Same message. Finally, reformatted my flash drive and deselected they “quick format”. Took well over an hour to format, but it worked. Having trouble unzipping with Windows 10.

Did you try unzipping on your local machine before moving to USB? That was the only way I could get it to work - it would fail every time I moved it to the USB drive then attempted unzip.
The website instructions are horrible. The only thing that hints to unzipping is where it says "extracting" at the top of step 2.
Their screenshot of file explorer is also wrong, you don't need both the JR3T-14G381-AM.ZIP folder AND the extracted files - that would take up twice as much space on USB drive,
You only need the SyncMyRide folder along with the autoinstall.lst and dontindx.msa files.
I have tried everything I can think of to extract the ZIP file, including using different machines, extracting to a hard drive folder instead of the thumb drive, different extraction methods, and downloading multiple copies of the ZIP file.
I can only conclude that the downloadable file is FUBAR.
It just doesn’t have to be this difficult. Ford should contract with Pioneer or a similar company and come out with a simple, user friendly format. All of these proprietary OEM infotainment systems each have their own quirks and Ford’s seem to be the worst. I’m in now way an IT guy, but Sync is just a mess from it’s inception as MyFordTouch until now.
