I must be doing something wrong. I downloaded the files and tried it in the truck. I get a failure message. Then, I tried re-downloading from the Sync site about four more times. Each time, I opened the 7-zip Manager. Selected the Sync folder, extract “here”.
It gives me four files. Then each of those four needs to be extracted. One of the four files, which ends in AN.tar.gz has an error every time. See photo.
It just doesn’t have to be this difficult. Ford should contract with Pioneer or a similar company and come out with a simple, user friendly format. All of these proprietary OEM infotainment systems each have their own quirks and Ford’s seem to be the worst. I’m in now way an IT guy, but Sync is just a mess from it’s inception as MyFordTouch until now.
I agree, the update process is poor at best. Aside from that, I don't have any issues with Sync3. I find it to be very user friendly compared to the competition and well laid out.
I like that Ford kept physical buttons for things that should be buttons (climate, radio controls, etc...). It would drive me NUTS needing to go to a screen to adjust volume or turn on defrost. I can do both of those things without even looking down with physical buttons.

EVERY time, it’s that one darn file!
That is frustrating.... they don't make this easy. Instead of 7-zip, have you tried the native windows 10 extraction tool? Should be able to right click and select "extract all" instead of extract with 7-zip. That worked for me.
I had to do some tricks to get it to work last time, the time before that I had to have the dealer do the installation. My 2016 kept getting Mem errors and I believe it was because my sync had a smaller memory than the later versions?? It would not work as the instructions stated.
Just curious what the newest update contains?? If it is Waze and Alexa only, then I would prefer to skip the whole thing. Both require an internet connection, which means my phone. I can use Waze with CarPlay and don't want Alexa.
Consider, everything has a 'cost', Waze is owned by Alphabet (Google) and they will know everywhere you go and your speed etc. The other side of that is they can build a model of traffic patterns and learn user's shortcuts.

I get errors when I try to unzip and move 2 of the files, no matter what tool is used to unzip and no matter what the destination ( hard drive, thumb drive, network drive ). Tried Windows 7 and Windows 10 OS PCs.
as the OP, I have about given up on this for a while. My Harley uses a similar system for updating and it always works. everything I see says two of the files are corrupted - doesn't matter what format the destination has.
Finally got it to work.
prepped an 8 GB drive formatted as specified and downloaded the update to that drive. Then right clicked on the downloaded file and selected open in new tab. Highlighted the files in the newly opened tab and drug them to the original tab displaying the downloaded file from Ford.
deleted the downloaded file from thumb drive.
placed in a usb port in the truck and started it up. Took a while but updated completed. Took a while for screen to indicate update in progress.

I tried your recommendation three times. Nothing. Looked up error code. It’s related to Adobe and Windows 10. Says to be sure you’re up to date. I checked. All is current.
Ford is really irritating me with their Crappy Sync. Several times a week, my audio won’t shut off by the power button. Ford needs to stop farting around with second rate operating systems with a number one truck. It’s stupid. Just like their navigation. Pair with Garmin already. Why are their operating interfaces just crap?

How long before it indicated it was in progress? I got the donotindex successful but then nothing happened.

How long did it take to initiate? Tried this and waited like 5 minutes... nothing.
I finally got it to work. I had to use nch Express zip. Let it analyze the file, extracted to desktop, moved to usb.
It kind of worked on a fluke. Wasn't expecting it to after dozens of tries with other software, but when I didn't get an extraction error I was surprised. Plugged it in and it fired right up.

The one file is the culprit. Tried everything you said, and even reloaded winzip. No luck. Think I’ll call the 1-800 number that popped up on my truck screen.
Yea, idk... it worked for me after hrs of trying. But then I hit the issue where it says update failed bc out of memory or not compatible with version. Ugh. Trying to figure out how to get past that now. Why the heck is this so hard.
