Yea, idk... it worked for me after hrs of trying. But then I hit the issue where it says update failed bc out of memory or not compatible with version. Ugh. Trying to figure out how to get past that now. Why the heck is this so hard.
Try a larger flash drive. I think it uses that to swap around the files.
I called a Ford. “Sorry, sir, but our system is down. We’ll call you back today”. Seven hours later, my phone still ain’t ringing, so I assume it still ain’t them.
Thought this update might work on my; 2016 Expy with Sync 3. it accepted it and then reported the update is available for sync 3 with nav only. Checked the ford owner website for updates related to the expy and it shows only the same file name downloaded for my truck - so assuming this update only applied to nav based sync 3 systems and no updates are out there for the non-nav systems.

You will need to download separately for non-nav sync system. I don't have nav on my '18 f150. If you open the autoinstall.lst file with notepad, you can see that it is only for non-nav units:
Finally had time to get this complete - started truck and installed USB drive with the 2 files + 1 folder that were extracted. A message came up saying "Updating system software" somewhere in the middle of install, a message came up that said to restart the truck to continue install so I did - I wasn't quick enough to take a picture. After that there was a final message that the update was complete. After a restart - the new build did not show up, I held the power button and right seek to force a soft reboot and the new build appeared.
It also kicked out the .XML file that has some interesting info from the update. Sorry to those having so many issues with this - aside from the extraction kickups install was a breeze.

Interesting.
I have the same version and build on my 2016 but my Gracenote Version is 1.1.1.1139 NA-0010
I have the same version and build on my 2016 but my Gracenote Version is 1.1.1.1139 NA-0010
Any idea what’s the difference?
No idea why they are different or how to update. Apparently gracenote is part of music search? The only info I can find is for the older my ford touch system:
"The Gracenote® music database works with SYNC® with MyFord Touch®-equipped vehicles to improve voice recognition for music searches and let drivers pinpoint bands, artists, and albums with hard to pronounce names, nicknames, and irregular spellings. Gracenote also provides Album Cover Art to make it easier to navigate music collections."
Ford never called me back. I called them back today. The gentleman ran my VIN number and proceeded to tell me that no update is required on my truck. I questioned the fact that I received an email from Ford saying one was available, and when I went on to sync my ride and entered my VIN, it said an update was available. He proceeded to basically nicely argue that the system shows no update is available for my 2019 truck. He never addressed why I could never get the file to download anyway, nor what the error messages I received really meant.
While he was on the phone, I asked him about the irritating messages on the screen that always pop up when I start the vehicle, like, Wi-Fi connection, or FordPass receiving data. He instructed me to turn off Wi-Fi and the automatic updates. When I asked about when to do updates, he said every 30 days I should do a manual update by checking sync my ride and downloading the files to a flash drive. Kind of sounds contradictory when I was told this time I had an update available through the website, but now Ford says there is no update. WHATEVER! Sync can kiss...
Oh, then he mentioned resolving idiosyncratic issues with this key cycle method, which soft resets sync. In order....
run engine.
shut off engine
open drivers door
lock door from door keypad
close drivers door
let truck sit at least 5 minutes
start truck anytime after 5 minutes and system resets
I finally got it to work. I had to use nch Express zip. Let it analyze the file, extracted to desktop, moved to usb.
It kind of worked on a fluke. Wasn't expecting it to after dozens of tries with other software, but when I didn't get an extraction error I was surprised. Plugged it in and it fired right up.

I finally talked to the IVT team which is just outsourced. He told me that Ford is having issues with the site, registration, signing in etc. and that's the issue. When I questioned him bc I'm not having issues signing on and I got the download onto the usb he confirmed there is an error with the update code I'm using (v1.0 to v3.0) and that I have to keep checking back. There's no notification of a fix... literally I just have to keep coming back, downloading again and trying. I work in software development... this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
Anyone that's gotten v1.0 to v3.0 to work on a sync 3 with nav want to send mr the download so I can compare and maybe use an uncorrupted version?
FINALLY figured it out. It may have been mentioned in this thread already or others I was looking at. Basically Ford's server is droping tid bits of the data during the transfer/ download causing the files to be corrupted. It has to do with unobservable connection interruptions or something.
This is what I did but full disclosure it did take 2 attempts. On the first I still had a file issue but it was only 1 instead of 2 files which gave me hope to try again.
I used chrome in an incognito tab. You need a google drive, drop box.... some cloud storage somewhere. I did Google drive.
1) go to owner.ford.com and sign in, navigate to owners and then SYNC software update. Click through until you get begin download.
2) right click on that button and inspect the button using developer to see the code. There is the link to the download in there. Copy that and save it somewhere for later.
3) go to multicloud.com and sign up, its free.
4) Once set up add your google drive or drop box account
5) click on the cloud drive you added and then upload button at the top
6) in the pop up, in the left corner is a link that says "upload url"
7) paste the URL link from step 2 in there. Name it whatever you want and click ok.
8) after it downloads to the cloud service, turn around and download to your p.c. and unzip.
Multicloud is going to handle downloading the file into your Google drive and it's designed to not drop data and pick up exactly where it left off if there are any connection issues.... or something like that. But again I did have to do this twice. On the second try I received no errors when using 7zip to unzip it. Got it on the USB and it updated no problem... finally
Hey,
I saw that you were able to get the upgrade to work from v1.0 to v3.0 -- would you mind sharing the file you downloaded with me? I'm on my second download now following your procedure.
SECOND That.. Im at Sync 1.0 and no matter what I do, I cant get a clean copy of 3.4 to down load, worst past is... I literally just bought the truck and I live 2 hours from the purchasing dealer.
I did talk to Ford CS this morning... Supposedly Ford knows about this issue and is "working on it..." however they did say that dealers are aware of this issue and have been instructed to perform the 3.4 update FREE OF CHARGE.... But, before I do thru that I would rather try to do it myself...
So, if @Kdrmedman Can post the link to what he put in his Drop box it would really help a LOT of us...

If the info in your profile about the year of your F150 is correct, no dealer will download SYNC 3 version “3.4” onto your vehicle because the maximum version for a 2016 F150 from the “factory” is version “3.0”
Yes, if the owners who received the 3.4 update can’t download it, I can see Ford dealers doing it for free but since the 2016 is maxed out at 3.0 from the factory, don’t count on your dealer to download 3.0 for you for free if you go that route.
However, version 3.4 can be downloaded onto your 2016 via various SYNC 3 system modifications and by following the instructions from members on here and other forums.
Did you try unzipping on your local machine before moving to USB? That was the only way I could get it to work - it would fail every time I moved it to the USB drive then attempted unzip.
The website instructions are horrible. The only thing that hints to unzipping is where it says "extracting" at the top of step 2.
Their screenshot of file explorer is also wrong, you don't need both the JR3T-14G381-AM.ZIP folder AND the extracted files - that would take up twice as much space on USB drive,
You only need the SyncMyRide folder along with the autoinstall.lst and dontindx.msa files.
I'm trying to re-format my usb drive right now hoping that will work, I was getting the same error as you on the largest file there was to move over. No clue what it has to be this hard or why it doesn't update automatically.
