I have a 1997 F350 7.3. I have no digits displayed in odometer and the speedometer doesn’t move. So I’m not getting a speed signal. I’ve done the vss, changed fluid, checked wiring, ive even sent the cluster out 3 times to be repaired. I have power at the plug for the back of speedo in the correct spots and a good ground. I am stumped and I was wondering if the pcm could be doing this. Or what I need to tackle next. Thanks in advance
When you say you checked the wiring, do you mean you electrically checked both wires to the VSS from the PCM for continuity, short to power, and short to ground? If not, you didn't check the wiring.
If you sent the cluster out 3 times to be repaired, is it repaired?
Seems dumb but can you try one out of another truck and make sure that's not the issue?!
I tried my cluster in my buddies truck and it works fine. I also have no power to my radio. And all fuses are good. Back to square one. Idk where to go from here.
If the odometer display works in another vehicle, but doesn't in yours, you have a wiring issue. I would recheck your wiring/fuses. Something was missed.
A new PCM will not fix this. Where are you going to get a new harness? And will that fix it?
So far I haven't seen you do any diagnostics, just parts changing. That's the most expensive way to fix any problem. You should try diagnosing the wiring, and if you don't know how it is probably cheaper and certainly faster to pay someone that knows how to do it.
My dogs chewed up the wires running to my rear differential. It had the exact same symptoms you have but I don't remember the flashing OD but it could've. I would check those wires on the rear differential. I spliced mine back together and it's been working fine since.
