Early 99' F-350 S/D 7.3 Automatic with O/D . 200k miles. Speedo isnt working at all . My tach works fine . I still have use of my cruise control. Nothing lit up on my dash and it isnt throwing any codes via obd 2 . Ive checked other posts everyone is saying they have some other symptom to go along with their speedo being out. I have no other issue but the Speedo could it still be the VSS ? Thanks for everyones help .
No the overdrive light is not flashing . The scanner is a innova/bluepoint my buddy bought it off the snapon truck at his work. It picked up the cam position sensor code when that went bad on me a few weeks ago but that was it . Had the dealer fix that recall and they didnt mention anything about the Speedometer and i didnt really want them messing with anything especially if they were going to charge me for their damage.
Napa has VSS sensors for less $, P/N 530780.. (they call it a ABS sensor)
Also check the wiring going to VSS.. sometime rocks or debris can damage the wiring..
okay so theres still only 1 sensor for the speedometer correct ? I just replaced the sensor on the top of the rear end .i'll check the wiring right now . Thanks for the tips .
Wires look fine everything is hooked up . Could the Speedo portion of my cluster be messed up ? I took the cluster out everything is plugged in properly traced the wires back no splits in the wires . I really like knowing how fast im going especially on Florida Highways speed limit is 70 mph in allot of spots . You all know what that means.
Could be the TSS (turbine speed sensor) or the OSS (output shaft sensor) on the transmission. The TSS is on the very top of the trans and the OSS is on the cone shaped housing at the back of the trans. They are both the same part so get one and try the oss 1st then the tss. Good luck.
