I am working on my first ford. It is a 1971 f100 custom. I am pulling the 240 6 out and replacing with a 302 and am planning on using the original 3.03 tranny. my question is can i go to the junk yard and pull the clutch and flywheel from a later model say something out of the 80's or 90's and make it work. Thank yall for all the information and posts on here.

I am no expert but I think the 302 uses 2 different balance weights through the years so you will need the right weight for the year 302 you have.
On the 3.03 trans you may want to look into a 5 speed w/over drive like the M5-R2 from the 80's trucks or maybe a WC T5.
I think you will have a much better driving pleasure with either trans over that old 3.03

thanks for the input ill look into what my local junkyard has available. Just wondering why the 3.03 is inferior I have never driven one.
The 3.03 is a great 3 speed transmission. Having had one for years, I was pleased at the improvement when I swapped in a 4 speed. Later on I had a couple vehicles with 5 speeds. Ahh, much better.
If you are going to the trouble to upgrade, bring along a gearbox upgrade as well. JMO.....
BTW the balancer break on the 302 is 1981. See if you can find a later Mustang or Explorer roller motor.
