What engine can I use?????
I have a 78 F100 Custom stepside with a blown 302. I have heard from a few mechanics that only a 78-79 302 will match the bell housing on my tranny. I just had my trans. rebuilt ,and don't want to have to get another. Is this true? or just some mechanic's way of trying to rip me off? (I'm just a musician with a penchant for old ford trucks!)

The 302 blongs to the Windsor engine family and they all use the same bellhousing regardless of year. That means that: 289, 302, 351W as well as a 300I6 will fit and year doesn't matter.
