Lowering rear for level
The block install was easy enough. Jacked up truck from rear diff, placed jacks under frame in front on rear tires, and lowered rear axle down. Used a second jack on the axle side I was working on. Removed ubolts and allowed the axle to drop 3/4” - just enough for old block to be removed. Installed new block and then new ubolts and tightened.
Repeat other side. Then torque down in steps.
here’s where the first problem was. The airbag supports require a carriage bolt to be inserted in the side of the block to then attach to the support. They have to be put in before the ubolt- which was not what the instructions say. Second prob was the carriage bolts were slightly larger than the opening of the 1.5” block opening, so I had to grind 2 sides of the head down slightly to allow it to squeze in.
retorqued ubolts.
next prob is with the 1.5” airbag supports, you have to drill holes to mount the airbag, as well as drill holes to mount the support arm that sits on the axle to mount onto the airbag support plate. There’s not a lot of room to mock this up under there. Also, the passenger side has some mounts in the way, so that support is near the end of the airbag support plate, not centered under the bag.
then came the task of trying to get 8 different bolts tightened under that plate which sits 1.5” off the axle. This required a LOT of patience. My hands are not large, but I struggled to get things in place and then tightened down.
I ended up mounting the bag to the PMF support first on the second side, instead of mounting on the top first.
after 2 days, I have them on. Today is the compressor to finish the task.
