Speedometer Problem
I have a 1989 F150 XLT with about 500,000 miles as my daily driver. Friday, on the way home from work the speedometer died, and the needle is now pointing straight down. The odometer and trip still work as expected so I don't think either the cable or the drive gear are the problem. My question is can the speedometer be repaired? Is it a DIY fix, or does a specialist need to do it, or do I need to find a new/reconditioned/junkyard speedometer to replace what I have?

i would just look for a speedometer head in a junkyard and swap it into your cluster.
write down the current mileage on your truck, and the mileage on the new head odometer. ..so you can keep track of actual miles. if you even care what it is.
