Transmission Slip???

I have a 2019 5.0 F150. I had just started my today. It's cold here in Michigan. Pulled out slowly. Stopped. Started again and the car seemed like it was in neutral for a second. Any ideas??? Is this normal for the Ford in cold weather or should I have it looked at?

Were you facing uphill by chance? These trucks will hold the brakes on a hill in while gear so you don't roll back when moving foot from brake to gas. I've had mine hang a second or 2 longer when getting back into the throttle.

This could make it "seem" like in neutral at the revs would climb but you won't go anywhere for a second or two. Then the brakes release and off you go.

Maybe unrelated but wanted to mention

Since you’re under warranty, take it into your preferred Ford dealer and have it checked.

No, I was pulling straight out of my spot in a flat parking lot. Went about 10 feet and had to stop for traffic. Went to move slowly again and the car just revved RPM's up as if it were in neutral. I let off and tried again. It went that time. Drove fine afterward. Figured I'd ask and see if anybody has had anything similar happen to them before I waste a bunch of my time going to Ford for them to say, "we can't duplicate the issue". That's their go to line. LOL!!!

Understood - different that what I described for sure. I haven't had that one happen in particular thought he 10R80 is quirky. Hopefully someone will chime in that has had the same experience. Dealer can scan for hard/soft codes and check fluid level - aside from that will most likely get the "can't duplicate issue" as you described.

How soon after you started the truck were you driving it? Extremely cold fluids behave weirdly for a few minutes.

That would make sense. Less than a minute

I don't know for sure if that was the issue, but maybe? Even 2 minutes of idling can really help. Don't leave it running with the keys in it though, thieves are everywhere. If you have remote start, start it before you put on your shoes and coat, and if you don't, maybe that's long enough to walk around the truck and brush snow from the windows and lights.

It should still never freewheel in those circumstances.

If it were me, I'd park it at the dealership overnight, then arrive in the morning to check it in and drive it to show a tech while it is cold.

I think mine was doing something similar. I think it was either the 2-3 or 3-4/5 shift the first time after sitting for an extended time. It felt like it wasn’t sure if it wanted to skip shift or not. I meant to take it to the dealer but never got around to it. It did stop doing it so I just chalked it up to part of the transmission learning process.

We have a relatively long driveway, which has a big "hump" in the middle with a long downhill. Since the drive is shared with some other neighbors, the local rule is to keep the speed on the driveway to 10 MPH or less, as people, pets, and children are frequently walking. Long story short, I have the tranny in drive until I reach the hump, then shift into 1st for the long downhill. When we first got the truck, that shift into first was kind of a surprise, as it would freewheel (or felt like it was freewheeling) for a second or two before engaging 1st gear. However, after we'd been driving for a couple of weeks, that little idiosyncrasy went away. It hasn't done that little trick in a few years now. My point is that I think this might be a characterization of the "immature" transmission learn mode.

My 2019 F-150 won’t move after sitting for a week setting in my heated basement garage. Put it in gear and it will hardly move until it has idled about 30’. If I push the throttle it will build pressure up quickly. Then it is good to go. My 2016 acted exactly the same way.
