1959 F100 with the OG y block and ford o matic. I'm installing a Mustang 2 front end. I'd like to go to a manual transmission. There's a brake/clutch set up for sale online. The gentleman selling it is willing to throw in the hydraulic master for a bit more scratch. What else would I need for a T5? I'm probably going to find a 302 to go with it. The y is tired, leaks, and stinks up the interior of the cab (crankcase fumes). I like the y block, but this is a daily driver, so reliability is key. Efficiency comes second. Y block is failing on both accounts.
Would the original clutch pedal/cylinder work with a t5?
The hydraulic master cylinder on that vintage was cast iron and just like the brake master cylinder were prone to leak internally, the clutch would engage while the clutch pedal was still down. Not fun at a traffic light. I can remember changing them back in the day.
The best and simplest is with a hydraulic throw out bearing and master cylinder kit. The 97 and up Ford trucks used that system and should be easy to adapt. You will have to experiment with the clutch pedal rod to get the correct stroke so as to not “bottom out” the master cylinder.
Adding the swing pedal is easy and you will not need an equalizer spring.
