2nd cracked tailhousing

Just a rant thread.

My truck is an absolute pile of ****.

Driveshaft failed recently, violent shaking on the freeway - by the time I got to a stop (drove it a mile or so?) the tail-housing was cracked as well. This is the SECOND time this has happened in 30k miles. Yes, I service the u joints, at minimum, every 5k with the oil change, and usually once in between.

I cannot wait to rid myself of this horrible truck. I am getting this fixed then selling this ****ing nightmare. It has been the worst automotive endeavor I have ever endured. Horrible design flaws - between the idiotic valley oil drain above the clutch (replaced that twice too!) to these ****ty transmission support components... I will NEVER buy another Ford.

That is all.

Oh let's not forget the oil pan fitting! Congrats to the absolute ****-tard that designed that. WTF?

This left me stranded right before my trip, so I have a brand new $300 bull**** diesel-********.com golden ticket part installed now. Works great!

If you are serious, there are plenty of people on here willing to take that pile of crap off your hands.

Sometimes you just have a hard run of luck, I had my own experience this weekend with the truck. Although, these are 1st world problems and I for one have seen and experienced much worse problems.

I would say if you are serious, post your truck in the marketplace and then in the sticky thread at the top of the sub-forum.

There's a couple of ways to wind up with a FUBARED tail housing (probably more in the same vein).

Let the driveshaft get out of sync (fail to mark alignment of each component on disassembly and reassemble to balance).
Dump the clutch on 3000 rpm.
Excessive lift kit.
Assume a truck designed to haul heavy on road is suitable for serious off road high speed moguls, ruts, and jumps.

Sorry, sounds like abusive operation to me. I been wrong before.

It was a failed driveshaft, I don't rebuild those myself as I don't have a way to properly balance them. 1st time it was the slip yoke, second time the double-u-joint whatever thing. Thankfully it's all covered under warranty and the shop is repairing the transmission as well. I don't abuse the truck, though it does have some knuckle dents from punching it, and I have also considered lighting it on fire a time or two. It's about 5,000 lbs too heavy to even consider high speed off roading . The truck has been driven a lot of places, but not hard.

I agree, first world problems. Still pretty frustrating.

I hear you and understand. I neglected to buy a cardan joint rebuild kit for my driveshaft and didn't realize it until we got it all apart this weekend. So, now my truck is in the mountains of north GA 2 hours away with no driveshaft. Luckily Jason knows a driveshaft specialist near him that can rectify the issue pretty easily and make sure the shaft is good to go back on the truck.

Frustrating nonetheless, but fixable in the end.

I'd highly recommend getting that thing balanced! Front isn't such a big deal, who uses 4x4 at highway speeds anyway... but the rear?? EEK.

Get rid of it, once a vehicle leaves you a bad taste, get rid of it no sense in getting frustrated over something that can be remedied by selling it.
Good luck on your next purchase.
