1959 Reassembly

I'm near the point of reassembly. What material should I use between the sheet metal such as finders to cab? Surely not metal to metal. It has been several years since I took it all apart and don't remember exactly what was between the metal parts.

Inner fender mounting

I assume you are talking about inner fender mounting

Inner fender mounted with rubber diamond plate floor mat pieces

I ordered everything from LMC. Only thing they didn't have is the strips between fender and cab. I plan to use some foam from hardware store, peel and stick

Mounting

The original mounting was with pieces of sidewall tire rubber. This was as close as I could get with having reasonable pliability of joint

Most of the assembly is metal to metal. I bought a fastener kit from Totally Stainless. It made assembly easy and no need for painting the bolts. Each set of bolts was labeled for each application. For the piece shown in the picture connecting the inner fender to the cab, I used a piece of conveyor belt. It was flexible and strong. I don't think anyone makes this part as an after market.

I don't know what the purpose was for a flexible joint? I built my truck in 1975, pre computer years so little info. I used a piece of angle aluminum and mounted it solid, right or wrong it's worked for the last 350,000 miles with no problem LOL

Maybe to have a little give when aligning fenders to doors. I didn't notice them when I pulled my front clip. 60 year old straps were no match against 200 lbs. Of stubborn determination. I had planned on using some tow strap webbing but maybe will bolt mine rigid now. I have to use steel though. Can't mix metals after working on helicopters. As far as original question, there is a thin strip of rubber where top of outer fender meets cab and the vertical strip I mentioned where the outer fender bolts to cab.

I also used a piece of belt as Walston said. Mine was from tractor supply place, perhaps some belting for a round baler. Cheap enough.
