Red face Help, Rain= Engine Cutting Off

2001 7.3 turbo diesal
Anybody ever heard of a Superduty cutting off when it rains? My truck will cut off idling and driving down the road when it is raining. The ford place tells me they need to have the truck when it is raining. I am not that great at predicting the weather and it seems to be hard to get it there. It seems to do it running the stock program or the aftermarket ones. Thank goodness I have 1000 miles left on my bumper to bumper........ Any thoughts?

thanks Mike

I have read in several threads that the cam position sensor is sensitive to moisture and your symptoms sound like the sensor can be a possibility.

Here are 3 of the most important letters you need to know since you own a Powerstroke: C,P, and S. Cam Position Sensor. Your cam position sensor is the only way that the ECU on that controls the engine knows where the cam is or what position it's at. If it doesn't know, the system will just shut down to prevent any damage to your enigne. Just replace your C.P.S. and you should be fine. My advice to you, (as well as the advice of others) buy an extra one and keep it on you should it decide to fail on you again. It's not hard to replace at all. Best of luck to you.

I have found that my ECU is mounted in the firewall on the drivers side. It has a plastic and rubber bezel that goes around the front of it (where the electrical connectors are) and seals the moisture and air into the cab. Water was running down the firewall and into the computer causing problems. I ended up having to replace the computer as it was damaged by moisture. This may be the cause of your problems.

Well i took my truck back to the ford dealership where i bought it. they kept it all day and when i contcted them they told me they couldnt find any problem with it. They also said that it isnt raining.
I gave them my thoughts on what the problem was from everybodys past experiance on here with the cam position sensor. He told me that he had never heard of one cutting off in the rain from the cps but they will go ahead and change it for me. So anyway, maybe it will rain on me and i can see if that is the fix. thanks for the help everybody, ill post if it fixes. mike
