2001 7.3 diesel, 4x4 auto. Full Banks Performance Pack. starts and idles fine as soon as it gets to 2000 rpm it sputters bad loses all power and blows a lot of white smoke. No codes! I did all I could and resorted to taking it to the local Ford Dealer. 2 weeks later and $2000 and it is still doing same and now they are talking to Ford. The entire fuel system has been replaced - Fuel filter AND housing, dropped fuel tank inspected and replaced pick-up unit and fuel pump, cleaned out all lines, pressure tested with good fuel pressure. Now Ford has them testing the high pressure oil circuit. ARGGGGG!!! This is a nightmare and I'm hemorrhaging cash!
Don't have any idea what a full Banks performance pack is. Does it have a chip or tuner? Have you pulled that and run it stock to see if that is the problem? Have you monitored High pressure oil and ipr when the power loss occurs?
I can relate to hemorrhaging cash when this stuff hits. If you can arm yourself with information from the sensors Paul mentions above, using TorquePro or similar app and a bluetooth or WiFi dongle on your OBDII port (choice dependent on the phone you have), that should help guide you, even with no codes.
Just heard back from the stealer - They found the turbo packed with acorns with no explanation as to how a mouse got in there, the air filter has always been intact and well sealed to the housing. When I checked it the intake side had a lot of acorns in it but the outlet side was clean. $2000 was spent on unrelated items in the fuel system. The tech just told me on an acceleration the boost goes to negative pointing him to the turbo. Why was this not seen before $2000 was spent???!! He is pulling the turbo fearing bent blades and manifold with acorns. They are now estimating $2700 without any further parts, all from mice!
I need to figure out how they are getting in there or this will be my new life, This truck has been here in mouselandia for 15 years, never had this one before.
You deserve it for taking a 19 year old vehicle to the dealership. I’ve said it a million times. Find a local, reputable mechanic. The dealerships are filled with people who are great at taking your money but lacking in technical skills.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Well, if the Dealer charged you $2k with the expectation that they KNEW what the problem was and those repairs were needed to fix it and it didn’t fix it...I’d be talking with the Service Manager! What is costing $2700? I put a new KC300X turbo in my truck for $1100 and I believe T4/SXE turbo can be had in the $2700 price range!
It just baffles me that they would put in a new fuel bowl, in tank pick up unit, and a new pump. A pressure gauge would have told them if the pump was bad, the screens are cleanable, and unless the bowl was rotted thru to the point of leaking then..... what the heck
I guess you should just be glad you didn't end up with a new IPR, ICP and HPOP before they found the acorns..................
$2700 is the current estimated total, without replacing the turbo if needed. Fuel bowl had "Visable rust" mech thought clogged. serv. assoc. said pick-up had burnt wires (of course they didn't replace just the wires) and I asked if I could supply the part, she gave me the part number that was for the pump when it arrived she called to tell me that it is the wrong part and that she will put it on my seat so that I can return it. She forgot and the mech assumed that if I supplied it I wanted it installed - so he did!!
I've already spoken to the Serv. Mgr. and he said when all is done we will sit down and "make it right". I'm skeptical and will have a lawyer on speed dial.
This is a very short version of the absolute fiasco I'm going though over the last 2 weeks.

Glad that at least you have the issue pinpointed. I'm surprised that you had white smoke. I would have thought you'd be rolling coal with that air restriction if fuel and oil systems were ok. I wonder if there was still a fuel supply issue as well.
Well, I hope this is it, but I'm very doubtful. As you pointed out it's white smoke not black. I believe I had the issue before the acorns in the turbo. In trouble shooting I removed the reusable air filter to clean and left it out over night to dry, this must have been when the mice had their party as the filter, hose and housing where not previously breached and there were a lot of acorns on the intake side of the filter but nice and clean on the outlet side. They will remove/clean and inspect the turbo. Any thoughts on replace vanes/bearing over entire turbo if the vanes are bent?
