Tips for removing push bumper guards

Hello all! I keep trying, and failing, at removing the push guards on the front bumper. I really like the look of them so I want to slap them on my 86 but my word removing them has got the best of me. I can’t ever get the nut to break free without the whole bolt just turning and I can’t get a grip on anything to hold the darn bolt! I was wondering if any of you guys have tips for removing them or maybe someone has some for sale?

I peeled the black rubber off, then spot welded the bolt head to the bumper guard. Then it came off.

that is a super idea my man but bringing a welder to a junkyard might be a challenge.

How about a small generator and a angle grinder and grind the heads off the bolts. Or possibly drill most of the head away with a battery drill and then take a chisel and cut the rest of the head off.

I'd go with just the drill in this case. Not sure what the tool restrictions on your salvage yard are though.
I never got my little hovel wired for my welder, or I'd tack them. On All the carriage bolts I have had to remove I ground the head a little to keep the drill from slipping. Upped the bit size little by little and tried to keep it centered. Ended up with 1/2" and either drilled it out or bit caught and broke the head off. Used the grinder chisel method on all the the factory rivets.

The push bumpers on my Bullnose are also going to be a PITA to get off. The driver's side one is loose because the PO had a fender bender with the truck. I investigated removing them in the past but saved the project for another day since I figured I would have to grind off the bolt heads. I need to get them off to install the brush guard I bought. Good luck.

Took a grinder to get my originals off, and my truck is a Washington truck. I had the same issue. If you peel back the rubber, you might be able to get a vice grip on the square part of the carriage bolt? Once, in order to get the bumper with the rubber strips, I used a hacksaw and completely cut through a set of the guards. It took 2 and a half hours, but in the end it was worth it, the bumper was $15 and in almost perfect condition.
