Two things, for whatever reason, are standing out in my mind. 1: A guy had built a wicked 79 F-350 4x4 dump truck here years ago with an old beer keg as a fuel tank. Pretty cool. And, 2: I just remembered an old air compressor tank in my pile of junk behind the shed. Probably 16 inches long by 8 wide/8high.......I wonder if....
Honorable mention number 3: There's a salvage yard near me that drains and pulls the fuel tanks on all the wrecks that come in. They've got almost an acre of old fuel tanks I could spend the day with a tape measure and trial fitting them til I found one that works.
First stop will be the 80 through 96 Ford pile. I think we're on to something here.
What year did Ford go to EFI? That might make for a different sending unit, or one that takes some unique adapting. So remember to check/collect items like elec connections/plugs. Also I seem to remember that on the newer trucks you have those QD fittings on the fuel lines.
Post #9 by Rich holds all the correct info...
There are two 19 gallon midship tanks for '74/'79 2wd supercab's, 1 with evap & 1 without.
& there are two 19.5 gallon midship tanks for '78/'79 4wd supercab's, 1 with evap & 1 without.
These tanks are NOT interchangeable between 2&4wd, & also the sending units are different between 2&4wd supercab midship tanks.
All supercab midship tanks are extinct & not reproduced.
Im sorry, I just don't see it. I couldn't find any of the listings that say supercab 4wd. Looks like they all say supercab The D4-G and D4-H were reassigned numerically to D8-G and D8-H. Maybe you can help with the part number because I keep looking and just do not see it. Please/Thank You
Right, thats all i saw. There’s no distinguishment between 2wd & 4wd which lends it to seem as all inclusive, esp since theres no 4wd mentioned elsewhere. If we refer to post 7, The D8 is the reassigned number for the D4 parts. Same part, new number.
Seemed to be the consensus. If im wrong, can you help me to understand please.
Crow? Theres a season on em here. Besides, our sole purpose for being in these forums is to learn. I am far from expert on anything thats why i ask about the cross-over. I will provide the exact source for that when i get to a pc. From a ford book with 80s or 90s date of update. Should have done that from the get go, sorry
So guys, I just noticed my parts truck having some gas tanks kicking around in the box. They've been around for awhile and rusty. Can they be preserved or I shouldn't waste my time?
