I found the molding with 'Ford' on it that goes on some of our era tailgates. I would like to put it on the tailgate I'm restoring. Does anyone know how it is held on? And if clips are required, where do I get them?
I found the plastic clips that hold the handle rods to the handle. I'm going through all the mechanism and cleaning/greasing/oiling it all. Is there an up-grade option on those clips?
They are held on by metal spring clips that clip onto the FORD panel back side mount tabs. Then phillips head sheet metal screws from the back side of the TG and thru the TG. And the FTE 101 on how to mount it. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-mounting.html
No upgrade on the rod end plastic pieces that I know of.
The plastic rod retainer clips are in the help section at parts store. Metal ones too but theyd be sloppy. Come in multi packs so may need 2 because they’re all different sized china crap along with everything else.
Check the back of your panel, the screw clips are usually good about staying on. You may be drilling in the dark for screw holes unless you can get measurements off another gate. Too Far away from mine rt now to help you out
Thanks guys. If the clips are present, maybe I could lay a piece of paper over the back of the Ford trim piece and mark the locations, then transfer the locations onto the tailgate and drill?
I ordered the rod clips from LMC for $6 for two.
