It claims to work with EFI, and even carries a CARB EO, so it must be emissions friendly.
Will it be too much of a choke for a 331 stroker with AFR 165 heads and ported GT40 intake?
My guess is it would peak out around 6 grand. My 331 stops pulling at 6500 with a Z303 (1.7 rockers) But it's also carbed (3x2) with basically the same heads.
The EDL-3722 seems to have exactly the same specs as the FMS E-303, except the E-303 cam is not emissions legal. Both listed as providing "mild" improvements over stock. I'll be satisfied with power peaking out at 6k, as long as there is some significant increase over stock.
if its still SD your going to need a way to tune it, 110 lsa, and 13" of vac, SD will not like it
I already did the MAF conversion, and have a Quarterhorse ready to do some data recording. Again, this is to work with a 331 stroker, AFR 165, and ported GT40 intake. I just want to make sure that it's possible to tune the EEC to work with the cam to pass smog.
Going by Hairy's recommendation, how about the CC 35-349-8 or 35-351-8?
There's really no good answer, a SWAG is best you can get, you being in Cali emissions strick doesnt even begin to explain their laws, stick with the Cobra cam, are your AFR's carb compliant, and you might get away, MAF may be another issue 87's didnt come with MAF, they were SD, depending where you get smogged at, you wouldnt pass visual, cant have your cake and eat too, the cam you need to make full use with them heads and intake will not pass, being in Cali, just my opinion, check the mustang forums on cali emissions friendly cams
As it turns out, I recently had a smog check done with the MAF conversion, and it passed. I've been going to the same guy for 20 years (biannually), so he knows my car, but didn't say anything about the MAF conversion. I think the rules say that if you put a later engine (and maybe part) into the car, it has to pass the later requirements.
He did notice that the engine is running a little lean though.
I forgot to mention, the AFR 165 are their only SBF heads that have a CARB EO. And I understand that if I got the biggest cam that these heads will support, I most likely will not pass smog, and may have a hard time tuning the QH to get it to run smoothly. So I'll search the Mustang forums to see what people's experiences were.
