New to this forum but i need some help please. First of all I am an ER Nurse so im the farthest thing away from a mechanic you can get. So I bought my 2015 F350 6.7 used in washington state and was not aware that truck had been deleted by previous owner only found out after i never had to add DEF fluid so I asked a mechanic. No tuner in truck and no way to know how it has been programmed or what tuner was used. Has blue metal caps on passenger side of engine and has straight exhaust so I figure it is a complete delete from what i have read. Past few days truck has been sluggish and when i floor it it bogs down and says exhaust filter limit warning and goes to limp mode then recovers. I have no idea what i should do to fix the problem or how tuners or any of this stuff works. I haul a 43 ft 5th wheel all over the country so I dont want this happening while towing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance
Sounds like the EGR is deleted and you don't have the DPF. Does it have a muffler? These trucks are decently loud compared to stock with the DOC/SCR/DPF unit installed.
Are you in one of the WA counties that require emissions testing? That'll play a big role in where you go from here (what to suggest). What a mess...
This is a big mess. It sounds to me like there is a problem with whatever tuner it is. Probably going to have to find a tuner and a monitor and reflash the tune.
Problem is, most of the time you need to have the factory tune first.
Might consult a local 4x4 or off road shop if you are near one. Someone who sells accessories for trucks.
I have no experience with deleted trucks but could it be possible the DPF sensor wire/s are unprotected and possibly causing a short or something that the computer senses? I would think a tune would remove those circuits from any PCM monitoring but it couldn't hurt to take a peak.
No muffler straight pipe to rear where splits to dual exhaust . I dont live anywhere I travel as a nurse so my home is wherever the 5th wheel is parked
Where the 2 blue caps are on the engine one of the wires was lying on the engine so i tucked it away looks like it may have burned some could be reason thanks for suggestion
Since it's been running fine, a wire fault is a good idea and a nightmare to troubleshoot. Check all of the wires where the DPF would be to ensure those connections are sealed since they get covered in road spray.
Reprogramming with a tuner erases the ECM (and get one with a TCM calibration) so I think you could purchase a tuner from a shop still willing to sell you one with the tunes already loaded on the device (no emissions tuning is a touchy subject right now so finding a company to sell you calibrations for a tuner could be difficult). If you find a shop willing to do this, ask if they have IDS. If so and the tune calibration doesn't load (connect to a battery charger to maintain correct voltage), then they can reflash with the OEM calibrations and then upload the tune calibrations. Having IDS would be helpful to reset the KAM as well but I think that's only required on 2017+ when flashing the TCM. I don't see why the original calibrations would be needed though unless wanting to return to stock (which IDS can fix).
I'd tell you to get with the seller and see if he can identify the tuner that he used. That will at least resolve one problem. Won't correct what is going on right now but it is one piece of this issue.
I recommend getting a EZ Lynk tuner 2 and then getting tunes from GDP( Look up their website or on FB) Start over with new support pack so you know what you have to work with. Also get a plug kit to cover all exposed plugs under truck and those in engine compartment that were disconnected when delete was done. The kit you can get from Shibby Engineering(Also on FB) Those connectors are low voltage and very prone to moisture shorting them out.
