I'm looking at a 2008 6.4 possibly deleted DPF what would happe. If previous owner removed the tuner? Are some tuners plug relearn and unplug with out having to be pluged in all times? Is there a way to check if truck is tuned?= thanks guys truck is 3.5 hrs away and dealer does not know much about aftermarket. It has dual exhaust andd k&n intake all they know, they say it runs good, i had him look under passenger front door for a large muffler like item and he said it did not have anything there but something further back in exhaust (muffler?)

Some if not most tuners don't need to be plugged in after the tune has been downloaded.
is there a easy way to find out if it is tuned? if it is tuned and a person wanted to update to a programer that you can shift on the fly and have gauges would that be an issue without going to stock tune first?
Without the DPF and returned back to a stock tune the engine would not run correctly. So in short it has to be one or the other, all stock or deleted with tuner. It is true you don't need the tuner plugged in at all times just needs the program. MY mini max was unplugged for a few weeks, thought a wire came loose but turned out it just partially unplugged at the box, never had an issue since it still had the program. Easiest way is to see if the DPF is there or not, if the dpf is gone and the truck was returned to stock it will be throwing codes.
So if the dpf is gone and it runs good no codes it is tuned if i bought a new programmer would i be able to load any new tune or would the truck have to be returned to the stock tune first?
I would insist the vehicle be brought up to its original configuration ( w/ DPF etc ). Set the system back to factory settings. I'm not sure if a vehicle can be sold without all the original EPA stuff..I guess it varies by state..but me thinks federal reg's will trump state requirements. Then you can buy it and do all the mods yourself. And you have a new DPF..
Since the "tuners" have to reflash the PCM, they can be removed one the update is done. The benefit of keeping most tuners connected is as a monitor for engine parameters and some offer the ability to change power levels on the fly. I would not purchase a vehicle that is currently modified without all OEM equipment. Also, you do not have the tuner to return the truck to stock, so there is a risk there as well.
would ford be able to return it to stock? id like to find a truck already tuned and deleted but also id like to have a tuner that can shift on the fly and watch gauges so maybe the hassel of returning to stock and buying a new programer wouldnt be worth it

Yes. Dealership can put back to stock.
The problem is, the truck you're looking at could be tuned several different ways and you won't be able to buy any tuner and put it on the truck.
so if i had the dealer return the programing to stock i would have to add a new programmer before running it at all if the dpf has been deleted
Yes. Is it a Ford Dealer selling the truck? If they retur the PCM to stock, they won't even be able to test it after unless they install a DPF. I recommend hVing the truck returned to stock COMPLETELY before purchasing.
You'll prob need another few hundred at least in ancillary parts and at least $1,000 in labor to put everything back. I think these figures are pretty conservative.
