2x Engine numbers CONFUSED
I am completely confused and am trying to get my supposed 74 F100 351c SWB registered in South Australia. It has been registered before in SA but expired in April 2006. I believe i have to fill in an application for registration MR1 but am unsure if i need to have a vehicle inspection and identity check conducted.
I have an old rego disc that has the engine number as JG37PL58173K however i can not find any numbers on the block to verify this.
There is a number stamped on the rhs of the block above the fuel pump AL1JBS89899K.
There is also a long number on the manifold that starts with a "76"
ALSO, there is no chassis number that i can find on the chassis rail under the alternator, i have wire brushed and cleaned back to bare metal on both sides of the chassis rail but nothing
Can anyone of you smart people decifer these engine number or shed some light for me?
Do i need to have the chassis stamped to match one of those engine numbers?
Pleeeeease help me get my truck registered
TIA Smoknmoe
As far as I know there were no F100's with a 351 of any kind until 1977, but something else might have been available in Australia. Post a picture of the vin plate and someone here can decode it.
JG# was a V8 falcon number from memory.
I've got the Aussie workshop manual at home, will check when I get back home. In Adelaide for ultrasounds at the moment.
EDIT
do a search on the ezyreg site. Put in the rego number, and you'll get some details.
VIN/CHASSIS: Not Recorded.
Engine Number: AL2JSA38346C (which is also a combination of the prefix and serial number..... which would also normally be used as the VIN/CHASSIS number) in later years, they made numbers a uniform length and had to add a prefix to this to bring the number up to the required length
your number:
AL1JBS is basically: US build, Broadmeadows assembled, F100 4x2, July 1983
89899K would be the serial number.
Your VIN would then normally be : AL1JBS89899K
the new prefix would make it 6FPAAAAL1JBS89899K to comply with the new 17 digit format
most likely, it’s not recorded though.
BUT.... this is for the number on the engine, which appears to be an ‘83.
You should find your ally ID tags. Usually on the firewall, or In the passenger side footwell or B-pillar.
What do yours say?
The JG37xxxxxxxx looks to be an engine/chassis number from a Fairlane. Rego disc could be from another vehicle?
In 74, our only options were the 250 six cyl, or the 302c v8 (basically a de-stroked 351).
78 onwards we had the 351 added.
My gvm and gcm are different on the tags, compared to the rego papers.
I tried to update these numbers when I took possession of my vehicle, and even brought in the tags, but they weren’t interested in facts, only what they had in the system on their end.
, and it seems even then, that their info is fairly dodgy.
You shouldn’t need an inspection, unless it’s been defected. Over the counter should be fine, just have all your ducks in a row.
And under new laws, you can’t remove the defect if you weren’t the owner at the time of the defect being issued.
Hope this makes sense........ typing on an iPad.... yuk.
When I was fighting for the title for one of mine and could not see a way out I walked across the street to my neighbor who owns a repair/paint/tow shop. Those tow truck driver guys know all the up to date tricks in getting a title. Gave him $50 (beer + title search) and 4 months later a title showed up for a truck that I tried for a year to pursue the title for.
