I got 2006 fx4 and the 4 low light came on, and stays on, even though I’m in 2wd and the speedometer goes up super slow, and the shifting is off, I have no clue what’s going on someone help me out please.
If the LOW light comes on that normally means the truck is in 4 x 4 LOW gear... Since you say the speedometer moves SLOW and the shifting is odd, that should confirm you are in LOW GEAR... WHY that happens is a good question... There is an electric motor on the side of the trans transfer case that turns to 4 LO, 4 HI, 2 HI when you move the **** on the dash.... If your not moving the ****, then there is something going on at the transfer case motor.. electrical problem, binding, etc. .. Try shifting into 4LO and test, then 4 HI and test, then 2 HI and test.. Does the motor seem to work as expected ?
1. Start the truck
2. Hold your foot on the brake pedal and keep it there until after step 9
3. Select Neutral
4. Wait three seconds
5. Select 4 low
6. Wait ten seconds
7. Select 2 high
8. Wait ten seconds
9. Select Park
10. Release the brake pedal if it is safe to do so

Now go for a drive. Symptoms still there?
I'm assuming this is a sign of a faulty/failing T-Case shift motor.
I'm experiencing the same issues as the OP along with other issues. I had to shift into 4 LO this morning and then back to 4 HI to get the T-Case in 4 HI. After about 15 miles of driving, I had no 4WD & I had not touched the selector **** and the 4 HI light was illuminated. I pulled into a parking lot and could not get it to go into 4WD. After shifting from 4 LO to 4 HI and back to 2WD the 4 LO light was illuminated and the T-Case was in LO.
Doing the exact procedure you listed, it went into 2WD.
I can hear the shifter solenoid when I turn the ****, so I'm assuming it's a bad shift motor.
My goal with that procedure was to ensure (1) that the person doing the procedure wouldn't move too fast and (2) give the transfer case time to do what it needs, even if a little slower than it should and (3) ensure the driveline is as unbound as I can get it from this side of the Internet so the transfer case would have better odds of success.
Glad to hear it worked for you. I hope Gabroo17 comes back and advises results as well.
