I have the TSB or whatever for this but haven't had it done since I've read dealers won't do the repair until the problem occurs. Does the repair or whatever they do help? Is it worthwhile or should I just look for things I can do here to prevent it from reoccurring?
First time event for me and to be honest I never would have thought it would happen here no colder than it gets comparably. 28 degrees this am. No rain since Monday. Truck has been driven daily since. Parked outside always.
Open the door this am and knew as soon as the door opened I could feel the handle not catch like it was disconnected. Door wouldn't latch shut.
I had remote started for almost 10 minutes to get frost cleared. Took an additional 15 minutes of driving with heat on full blast before it finally thawed enough to catch. Sucks having to drive down the freeway holding the door shut but at least it was the driver door as I was alone and it would have kept me idling for however long it took to thaw before I could leave.
Both my front doors locking mechanisms were frozen Thursday morning on my 2018 F250 SuperCab, even though I did 2 cycles of remote start to warm things up. Left the truck all day in the driveway, got a ride to work, 9 hours later the drivers door was able to unlock, passenger door not so much. Now this morning (Friday) only the drivers door was able to unlock in the morning. Late this morning passenger door lock unfroze and I was able to open it. I called around to a few local dealers to see when I could get in, and I have an appointment on 12-30. All the service departments indicated they are getting a lot of these repairs in. It hasn't been terribly cold here in CT so far this season, and last winter was very cold, with no issues. Hopefully the repair will correct what the problem is.

To be clear my door opened fine. It wouldn't close after it opened. As soon as the door released you could feel the handle had no pressure on it like when you open the hood release. I tried to locking the door then closing to see if it would latch and it didn't work on mine as it has on others I've read about. It felt like the latch wasn't hitting at all as soon as the door hit the door frame it would just bounce back open.

I get that your situation is different than mine, and as the service departments said to me, it is probably the actuators that are bad/corrupted and are affected by moisture/cold temperatures and need replacing, as they've replaced a lot recently. So whether they freeze closed and don't allow a door to unlock or allow you to unlock but get stuck in the unlocked position and don't allow the door to securely lock closed, they may need the same corrective action. I will ask to see my original actuators if they do get replaced and see a new one (and any other materials they deem needing replacement) to get an idea of how Ford has gone about this campaign.

I got you. Thanks for clarifying. That makes a lot of sense. I will look forward to your findings and I will share mine as well if and when I visit the dealer.
I did go to my scheduled appointment earlier this week to get Customer Satisfaction Program 18N03R (door latches freezing) taken care of. I was back in my truck in 2-1/2 hours. The Service Advisor said they have performed a lot of this service with no issues.

So what was/is the actual fix? I have the TSB also, but I live close to Houston, so a freeze is pretty unlikely. I asked about it when I had the truck in last time, and they said they typically wouldn't do the fix unless you had the issue happen. Not a big deal for me, but I am curious.

On the paperwork I received after the repair was done it has these two ford part#s on it:
FL3Z-16308-P
LL3Z-15264B28-A
First# is a seal and the second# are clips.
Hasn't dropped below freezing here since; hoping I don't have any problems going forward.
It's been a known issue for a couple of years that started in the F150 line. There was a so called "ghetto fix" that was posted a long time ago. Tried it after my 2017 latches had frozen and it solved the problem. Here's a link to the F150 fix, which is basically the same if I remember correctly. To me it was simple and worth a shot in my own garage instead of scheduling an appointment and dealing with the BS of leaving it at the dealer for who knows how long.
I did notice that my 2019 came from the factory without the rubber plugs in the bottom of the doors. So far it's been inside most of the winter while I drive my little beater around for the better MPG, so I haven't seen the freezing issue yet.
