Didn't do enough diagnosing before i started throwing parts at it, so i know if isn't the motor or the resistor causing my issues...
The airflow slows down and the ducts sound like they are blocked when the temperature is red. More red, slower air and more blocked sound.
possibly Worth noting this has gotten progressively worse over the last few thousand miles and we've only used the heat in that period, which is why i assumed blower and resistor issues...
Do you have the digital/automatic climate control or mechanical dial type? If you have the automatic control it could be whatever makes it do the proper auto function is screwed up, could be as simple as a bad temp sensor. I don't know how to diagnose the system. If you have ***** then my only thought is that a flap is screwed up blocking airflow or maybe debris blocking air flow through the heater core, but I don't know the system enough to know if those are possible.
The rear heater should still be working even if the front is messed up so at least you can get some heat while you sort out the problem. I'm assuming they all have the rear system, but don't know.

it's the dial type - I hadn't considered debris blocking the airflow.
