I've lost all my heater blower speeds except high on my normal driver. This works out to be fairly important because high speed is actually too much air if it's cold enough out and you don't get as warm air coming out of the vents!
I'm thinking it's the resister, which I believe is to the right of the blower under the hood. Before I start taking stuff apart and buying parts, is there anything else I should look at? This happened at the same time as I changed my lift pump (this is a 7.3 IDI diesel), and I don't like coincidences, so I've been trying to think of what could have happened working on that to mess with my heater. The plugs at the blower and what I believe is the resister are both tight.
Well from my understanding the resistor is the only thing that can cause that condition. My truck has it as well. You are correct, it is right next to the motor to the right.
Yeah sounds like you got a bad resistor pack. Take a look in the connector too... mine was tight as **** and after some careful prying and pulling I got it off and saw why. There was heavy corrosion in there... I was able to save it with a good cleaning and sealant but I almost had to replace it.
Don't know why Ford didn't weatherproof this particular connector.
