Are we looking at green coolant or is that a photo issue?
yes that is green coolant, his truck goes through about 3 liters of coolant a week and he’s just resorted to auto zone coolant
Also the radiator in the picture is a new one, about 3 months old

Being new, it shouldn't be leaking, but it apparently is. Since it is leaking, then it needs to be replaced. If the temperatures are real, then no wonder even new things are failing. If the coolant level gets too low, it may not read the proper temperature. If the sensor is "out of the liquid" due to a low level, it will not read properly.

Sounds like head gasket issues or worse to me, but verifying the validity of the oil temp sensor should probably be the first thing to do.

Has the EGR cooler been deleted?

If my truck was leaking that much I would not drive it at all.

Too much to risk and that is a very expensive fix if he destroys/melts internals and they make their way through the system.

while cruising at 70 on the interstate the truck will be fine and then coolant will jump from 194 to over 200 and oil will jump from 198-202 to 300+ within 30 seconds and my brother has to race to shut the truck down
ford dealership wants to put a new engine in rather than try to fix the problem
when the truck gets hot, it’s pissing coolant out the bottom of the radiator by the time he gets to a stop

photo if bottom passenger side of the radiator, there is a small high pressure stream of coolant coming out from between the metal tube and the radiator hose
have you found the solution to your problem yet?
If not, make sure there is enough coolant in the system.
Install a pressure gauge to monitor the coolant pressure. Use an infrared thermometer to compare the temps of OBD devices.
If the temperature is really too high, remove the thermostat and drive without it, checking temperature problem still exists.
I advise everyone to install a min. coolant level alarm. In case of a big leak (collapst radiator hose etc.), the system is empty within seconds

example how I have done:

That's a good modification, Hartwig. I've not seen that before on a 6.0.

Thanks Hartwig! Can you provide any additional details on the sensor? I think this is an important addition especially as our vehicles get older. I know we all try do as much preventative maintenance as possible to minimize having a breakdown on the side of the road but sometimes things do unexpectedly happen, usually far from home.

I’ve driven class 8 trucks that come with them, some vehicles have them, and I know some boat manufacturers have kits. I’m surprised no one in the Powerstroke community, including me, has never thought of this modification. It may have saved Pete a set of heads when his Wye broke.

What I’ve seen are either capacitance probes or a simple float. I can’t make out or have seen what Hartwig has installed. If you hunt YouTube you can find some videos of installs. Probably on some other forums too.

This is like a Duh moment.

I'm gonna change the fastening with the cord. the "spring effect" is caused by a tension spring, i will replace it with a kind of rubber. i chose the narrow cord because a wide band would block my view of the indicator light.
i tried for a long time until i liked the solution. i didn't want to drill at the degas bottle or bring more hoses into the game, they are all potential sources of trouble.

its a capacitive sensor, no drilling is needed. I have done some tests before. The sensitivity can be adjusted. It can also be set to open or close a contakt. i have set it up so , it beeps briefly in very fast driven left turns. That way I know that everything works.

every oil change / coolant filter change, I check for function:

The answer people would want to know is the source of the sensor.

Hello, Jack, the articles are all from a German company. I'm sure you can find something similar in the USA. Unfortunately I'm already at home now, the documents are all in my workshop. I have already written something to SmackDaddy by mail. Maybe he can publish the links here. Here on the other side of the earth it is already bedtime. Sleep well friends, read you tomorrow.

Friggin’ SmackDaddy is holding out on us......

So a kit would run about $50 USD plus shipping, not counting a relay and indicator light if the sensor had to be imported.

Edit - and about $28 shipping.

Shipping costs could be reduced in a bulk shipment, GER to USA, they have 100 in stock.
