I have a 1991 Ford F250 four-wheel Dr with 50k miles it has a 460efi motor and an Automatic transmission. I live in California and am very limited in what I can do on the truck. I purchased a unit called twisted smog from an outfit called "460 EFI GUYS" I was going to install but started to wonder if there would be better options. I also may not want to damage the original integrity of the basic stock wiring harness unless it is no big deal. I am guessing that with all of the options that this may be okay to install. Any thoughts? I do like the idea of being able to get it set up for smog easily since we are so controlled here in California. I also noticed that many posts mentioned that a new cam and timing chain could also make a real difference on the truck. I have a 1988 Ford Super duty with the manual transmission and it has lots of power. The 4x4 just feels sluggish.
What are you hoping to accomplish? Deleting smog equipment has ZERO effect on performance so I'm not sure the logic of doing this in a tightly controlled environment like California.
Thanks for the heads up. I do want to increase the performance if possible. That is why this smog delete harness seemed to be a great and simple upgrade, it claimed to trick the computer and give better performance. That is unless I misunderstood the information that I gleaned. I guess I am gullible when it comes to all of this EFI and the computer stuff.
if its not too late send it back, and get the Innova OBD I 3145 Code Reader for our trucks, it will do both of yours, and then do a tune up on both Innova 3145 OBD I Ford Code Reader
Would be interesting to see what's inside the little case. Probably just a handful of resistors similar to the "fuel saver" devices sold on eBay only this one is in an aluminum case that's harder to open than the plastic ones on eBay.
Yes, Guess I got duped. I just don't feel good about cutting wires that are factory unless it would really help. I appreciate the original engineering unless I can get better performance. I suspect that I need to find out about other options. Thanks for the help
