I have a 2015 F450 with the 6.7L chassis cab which I love. I noticed the other day when I would drive, start steering, or brake a winding noise. I checked the fluids power steering fluid was below min and brake fluid oil between min and max. I toped off power steering fluid with Micron V and it settled the noise down a little but its still there. Suggestions on what could be the root cause. It sounds like it is something on the drivers side of the motor under tubing? thanks in advance for any and all help.
Start the truck, have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth, take a flashlight and look in the power steering reservoir you should see cavitation of the fluid. If the fluid is full of bubbles or foam or stagnant the pump is probably dead. The fluid acts as a lubricant for the pump, low fluid no lubricant and when you consider how fast it’s turning even at idle...not good. Get in the habit of checking fluids once a month or every other fill up. The power steering also runs the hydro boost...
Crap the little @%@^$^ has only 28,000 miles on it. my 2013 I have over 150,000 miles and had a solenoid on turbo go bad at 78,000 miles and the vacuum seal gasket go bad at 110,000. Dang it!!!!1 PS I still love all four of my fords. But $^$#^@%&@%&%#$&$@^$%%$&%^!&*&(&^&@!!!!!!!
Well I topped the power steering off the other day and yesterday had one of my employees turn the wheels back and forth no bubbles just when he locked the tires out a single bubble which I would think would be the valve on the pump. Aso no weird sounds coming from the motor or anything everything sounded 100% fine, now what? I plow snow and the last thing I want is the truck to have a major issue while plowing, or an employee running it on one leg too long and screw other things up.
You should be able to see the return fluid flowing back into the reservoir. I just replaced mine and took a video, let me know if it’ll help to see it.
How hard was in to turn the wheel? You could have air in the system that needs to be purged...

I wouldn't mind seeing the video. The wheel turns 100% fine I am starting to think there may have been air in the system that just finally purged we don't put that many miles on the trucks.
