power steering noise
I have a 88 F150 with a 302. The power steering is noisey. The pump makes a buzzing sound that can be heard over the engine idling as you turn the wheel. Is this normal or do I have a power steering problem? The fluid is good and it steers good but it is a little hard to turn while the truck is idling. Can anyone help?

They are loud, but they get louder with a few miles on them. As long as it still steers smoth and does not jump. It will be fine. But if it is jumpy and stiff you will need a new pump.
Also do not put atf fluid in it. Only use powersteering fluid.

Thanks for the reply. My Grandpa bought one new back then and I thought I remembered the noisey power steering but I was not sure so I thought I would see if there was anything I could do to quite it down a little.
