You can paint the background then epoxy on top. That will get you close I think. Could probably get closer using a candy paint. The only think with the epoxy I'd warn against is get one with a longer working time, say 30 minutes or so. You will have to worry about air bubbles. You can apply heat either a heat gun or quickly pass a torch over the surface. The heat makes the bubbles come to the surface and pop. You'll have to do a little research and make sure you get a resin that doesn't yellow over time. But that's the only way I can think of getting that deep look.
These Emblems are Ford production parts. Trailer Special and Camper Special were applied to some trucks starting in 1973. Much like the Square XLT and Lariat Emblem which are just slightly smaller than the 73-79, the Camper Special Emblem is smaller as well. I just checked LMC and Dennis Carpenter, it doesn't appear they make repros in either vintage.
Yeah, I looked at the usual suspects to see if they had any, but the fact that I could'nt find any just makes me want to clean these up even more. I orderd a second one off a guy on ebay. I had to order a set of F100 Ranger badged it came with, but I am a sucker for small details so I gave in.
Its sounds like you found some of your answers. Let me know if you'd like another picture. I have a 1981 trailer special. Those seem to be rare emblems!

Yeah, they seem pretty rare emblems. I haven't seen any, anywhere and got lucky enough to find a second one on ebay.
I'd defenitly would like some pictures of the badges if you have them! That would very much.
I finally got around to the emblem. I have been pretty tied up with all the German paperwork and my rear axle. I got some epoxy and tried it with the red dye I already had at home. This is just a proof of concept if you will.
It is definitely way to light and with that dye looks more like jello than anything else lol. I will have to get a darker shade of red.
It is transparent in the way I want it to be and has that deep appearance. So that is a win. I will be getting new dye, and try it again before I actually do it on the real badges.
