So while I am getting the truck ready, (which is going really well thanks to all of you) I wanted to take care of some cosmetics to get a break from rusted bolts and dry rotted hoses. While working on that I noticed a "Trailer Special" Emblem in a ziplock bag under the seat. My truck came with the heavy-duty towing package and the emblem had blue paint stuck to the back of it, so I thought it is pretty likely that the emblem goes with my truck.
It is pretty faded and I would like to clean it up and install it back on the truck, but I can't find any pictures of it online to know what it used to look like or where it goes.
Have any of y'all seen it on a truck or know what they are supposed to look like and where they go?
(I will post a picture of it when I get time to go down to the barn)
Now the question is how do I get that red paint back on there? just painting it red and sanding the letters will look flat and not that transparent. Anyone have an idea to get the original look back?
Original Look I am going for. Any ideas in the paint?
Paint made for stained glass and a steady hand? If it works on church windows, it's probably translucent enough to work on the emblem. If you can find it in a bottle, you could lay the emblem flat and not have to brush it (assuming the stuff you get is thin enough to let it flow flat around the lettering).
Might have to hunt a bit to find the right shade, but the emblem is probably small enough that "close" would do it and no one would be any the wiser.
I wonder if that might have been a badge added by the dealer?
From my research, it seems to be a dealer badge like the camper special. It also said it was only put on the trucks in 1980 and 1981. Don't know how accurate that is, but it seems to make sense. Just a way the dealer fancied up the Heavy duty towing package by putting some bling emblems on it.

It has a ford PN - EOTB-16098-A does that matter? not sure how dealers sourced their stuff.
I did think that the epoxy idea was good until I looked closer at the emblem. The letters are bearly higher than the background. We are talking a tiny bit. My emblem still has some splotches of paint on it and it looks like they were painted originally, not epoxied. I will get supplies for both and paint it with stained glass color first. If that looks like garbage (I am going for the "close enough" look), I will attempt the epoxy. Will probably have to fill it above the letters, then sand it back down and polish.
I will give it a try with the paint over the holidays (Just because it is easier) and then post the results.
