It uses a 7-pin circular plug which mates to the matching jack than came with my truck when I ordered the towing option.
The truck will charge the batteries on the trailer while you are driving down the road quite nicely. I have the dual alternator option just for this reason.
The best thing I have had is a SurePower isolater. It will divert the Alt power to the battery/s needing the most charge. The stock Aux at my 7 pin seems to only trickle charge. There is good instructions with isolater but if not well versed in Mech/Elec I would suggest a Pro. Check around your area. In Tucson there is a shop Auto Safety House.
