Does anyone have the dual alternator option? What are the pro's and con's? I ordered it but figured maybe there was more I should know. Is it just more stuff to break? Are they covered under the 100,000 mile warranty? Is one alternator not enough?
Yes, you can charge a trailer battery--if you have the 7 pole connector on the EXC, it has a charge line that will mate to the trailer connector. It will charge while you are driving. BUT, there isn't much left on the alternator while running stereo and a/c--if the battery is low, you will need to drive a long way. Basically, it will keep a well-charged battery up--it won't do much for one that is dead.
Now how do I do it? Yes I do have the large connector by the hitch, had a 01 v-10 and it did not have the small four pin, 1 male 3 female, like my 03 does but everything else is the same. It came wired for trailer brake plug in under the dash.
I do not need to charge the bat just keep it charged.
The 2 alt. do not charge the batteries individually. The batteries are connected with a regular cable and no isolator so there is no way they are on separate circuits. I would imagine that you could unplug on of them and not see the difference in charging.
For the trailer Batt. look on the cover of your trailer connector. You should see a wire that says AUX. Run the truck and check it with a test light. It should be the hot wire. I use this to charge the battery for the winch on my car trailer.

OK...wow, I need to take this one slow or I will smoke something. I have a 32-foot classic, (car hauler) it has a bat for the alarm system and for tong jack, are you saying there is a way to charge it going down the road. No laughing at me, I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer............when it comes to electricity. I have been told, by folks in this town, I would need a separate system to do what I want. Just maintain a good charge on the trailer bat. I do not have two alternators on the my X.
Dual alternators are for high use electrics on vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. I did not want more stuff to break, so I did not get a dual alt.
