I have a problem with hard starts when cold, it will usually fire up after one cycle but it let's out a hug white puff then a steady stream for about 10min till warm, how ever, when pluged in there is no smoke no anything just a Smooth easy start. My question is should I throw new glow plugs at it or should I look at the injectors, I've heard the injectors may need sheeming if I'm having these symptoms. Thank you
Check the glow plugs before you throw money at it. It may need new glow plugs, a new GPR, or may have a burnt wire. You should have somewhere around 1 ohm of resistance in the glow plug. You can test it through the harness and that will confirm that the wiring works too.
You also need to test your glow plug relay. Test the small terminal for 12v when cold and you turn the key on. Then check to make sure that the large lugs both have 12v when the small terminal also has 12v . If the relay is getting 12v but isnt closing, you need a new relay. If the glow plugs ohm bad or open, you need new glow plugs. Motorcraft only!!!!!
