Hi all. I got a 2016 lariat that is giving me some issues. The tow haul button is not working. I’ve had the truck a year and a half has 50k on it. I noticed the problem about 6 months ago when I tried to use it the first time. But no luck. Didn’t care until now I need to pull a trailer and would like that button to work.
pulled apart the center console. The button is good, checked it with a multimeter. Anyone have this issue before?
The first thing I would do is hook us Forscan with an MS CAN adapter and look for hidden codes. Perhaps something in your computer can tell you what's wrong.
Another option could be that, if you have just a light on the dash board for Tow Haul it could just be burnt out. On my truck its on the screen, but I'm not sure if other trim packages without a screen have just a light on the dash.
Forscan sounds like a good idea. I’ll have to give that a shot. I checked for voltage through the wires today. Had 120mv the same as the other wires hooked up to the harness close to the shifter. It doesn’t go into sport mode either. Like it won’t register my push. I even jumped the button and just directly hooked the wires to no luck. It should show up in the screen area, at least how I saw it on another 2016 lariat.
im stumped... it has to be computer related at this point?
You jumping it at the shifter or closer to the BCM/ECM? I'm guessing you have a broken wire or connector somewhere between the console/shifter and the BCM/ECM.
I thought both wires going to the switch were supposed to be 120mv as everything else in that area is. But turns out the brown wire is 12v.
so it wasn’t getting that power. I check the fuses... #20 a 5A 3 prong fuse is missing. Put one in its all good now. Man that truck is alive in sport mode.
I could only guess that because my truck was a government vehicle before I got it... they pulled that out to stop people from racing it. Moral of the story always check your fuses first! Even in a digital world.
