Col, My hinges seem fine, but if it continues to drive itself, you might be getting an e-mail, I appricate the offer. Did you get my radio pics?
thanks guys, I'm going to stick with my theory and hope all goes well. -4speed
4speed, you make me feel like an old man in comparision to you, and I'm only 25 (I use to think I was a youngin on here)
I know I've done my fair share of stupid things that left pretty good marks. Had it one time back in high school I was on my way in to class in the morning, had a bit of snow the night before, but a majority had melted except for this one spot in the shade... was going about 60 when I hit the slush, and my '80 F-150 hydroplaned me right into a cornfield. Everything would have been fine except for the stupid roadsign in the way which caught my drivers bed side right at the wheelwell, and dented everything from there back including my bumper, all to heck. Funny thing is, that the plastic turnsignal housing was untouched. Oh well, no longterm harm was done, at least to me.
If you think that was funny, you should hear what happened to my creeper
Hey 4 speed,
I am also glad that you are alright and didn't come away with any distinguishing markings on your person. When I was 14 we had my Grandfather's 53 F 100 in our driveway. He had passed away a few years earlier and my dad inherited it. Man it was sweet. Flat head and a factory 3 spd overdrive. My older brother had just purchased himself a new '78 Datsun pickup and was planning to pass his '67 VW camper van on to me as my first car. Me and a couple of buddies decided to take it for a test drive around the neighborhood one day after school when nobody else was home. How would they ever know? I didn't even get out of the driveway before I had had my first automobile accident. I plowed my Grandfather's truck with that dumb old camper van. My dad decided that I was not exhibiting responsible tendencies and made my brother sell the van. I ended up with a Yamaha 250 as my sole means of transportation, rain or shine, until I was 18 when my dad finally let me buy a car.

something you may want to look at is the motor mounts.
I used to have a 67 galaxy with a whooped mount;if I mashed the gas,the motor would roll over and pull the throttle wide open. The trans would also shift into low gear(I guess it twisted enough to pull on the linkage)-real exiting on the highway!!!!
-hope you get it sorted out!!
Obvious places I'd look at first would be accelerator and throttle linkage. Sticky? rusted? crusty? Also check accelerator cable for frays or anything that it could even remotely have the chance of hanging up on.
Hope the hinges didn't get bent &/or the door jamb. Also, depending on how severe the crease is, you might want to check the overall cab allignment (doors, windows, windshield seals, etc) Been there, paid out the a$$ for that.... (truck had been rolled or tipped).
The door jams didn't get bent and the hinges look fine. I checked the cab and everything and it looks okay. It did managed to knock a big chunk of bondo out of the fender I'm seriously going to look at the trans and throttle linkage behind the carb tomorrow after school. I'm going to start reading up on them in the shop manual. -4speed
Please also follow up on what I posted earlier about Chequing the Shift Levers Stop Bolt & Notch on the Steering Column. If that is indeed Worn It will continue to cause further problems such as you just experienced in the coming future.

First you were like "Whoa!", then you were like "WWHHOOAAAA!!", then you were like "wwhhoooaaaa...."
Evidentally, you didn't appease the car gods. Chris Titus warned us all about that in an article he wrote. When your car is done, or close to it, you have to get a screwdrive and put a denting scrape under the front end rollpan. That way, it's out of sight, but you have appeased the car gods who would otherwise exact a horrible revenge for being ignored.
Man, I'm glad you weren't hurt! You're like a good friend and I haven't even met you! Now your door opens and closes like mine: scr-EEEK! ha ha! ;-)
Sorry to hear that. That's enough to **** off the Pope! But it just goes to show you just can't have everything! As soon as something gets nice in your life, something else balances it out.
Sorry to hear about your little incident, 4 Speed, but it's nice to know I've got good company. Consider yourself very fortunate. My little miscalculation this summer cost me 4 months of repair time, a new body, and almost 6 G's. Things could always be worse.
Pretty popular thread ehh? I've even got rage to talk! I'm going to start reading the shop manual like I said before and I'm going to check everybody's sugestions. I'm about out of replies for this tread, so later. -4speed
4 Speed. Sorry about the problem, but I doubt it is anything to do with myth or evil incarnate. Also, probably not the truck's fault. Reinact your movements. Most accidents happen because of the operator, not defective equipment. Don't get mad at me, but I'm trying to help you make sure this doesn't happen again. When you got out, were you in a hurry? Is it possible the floor mat was slid to the right as you pushed yourself to the door? Maybe it got wedged up to the accelerator. Has the throttle ever stuck before? Sounds like this is the only time. When you put your fordomatic in park, do you wait to see if it is in park or do you just jump out? My fordomatic does not always go into park all the way unless I purposly put it there. I don't know if it's the nature of the beast or just because it's old. Lastly, you can eliminate the need to get out of the truck while it's still running by suspending a tennis ball from the ceiling that contacts your windshield when you have driven in far enough for the tailend to miss the garage door. Mistakes happen to everybody. It's only considered a problem if they are repeated. I doubt that yo0u will let this happen again. Also, it's good that you shared the experience. It could prevent this from happening to someone else! John
I'll admit it, I was in a slight hurry. I know I through it into park the floormat didn't get wedged as I know of. I could understand if I hadn't put it into park all the way because then it would of idled back but when the engine was maxed out it didn't seem like it was in reverse because it would have been going alot faster at that engine speed follow? I'll from now on make sure its in park and I won't leave it running either. Needless to say I'm going to be alot more careful with her. I'm sure there was some human error, but I also think something went wrong. Oh,well its over and I'll I can do is prevent this from happening. So enough of all my comments, -4speed
