I'm looking at buying an F650/F750 (2004-2008) to pull my camper with, as well to put a pickup bed on when I'm not towing. Single cab trucks are readily available, as well as crew cab XL trucks. I have to have a crew cab, with automatic transmission. If I buy a single cab and swap it with a crew cab from a 250-550, can I just re-flash the BCM, or is it totally different? I know I'll have some wiring to change regardless to make it communicate with the engine/transmission modules, but I can't find any info on whether it's as simple as a re-flash for the program.
Not sure about the BCM but the rest of the swap is not a easy task.
650/750 has tilt hood so all of the inner fenders and front support would need to be removed from a 250/550 cab.
Then all of the hood support brackets and components from the 650/750 cab would have to be welded or bolted to the 250/550 cab.
650/750 cabs sit higher up on the frame so all cab mounts could also need to be swapped.
With tilt hood all wiring ahead of the firewall is different.
Some 650's came with 6.0 PS engines but most had Cummins or Cat power
650/750 also used big truck Allison trans.
As I said lots of changes to make before worrying about parts communicating with each other.
Buying a XL crew and swapping in the better interior components might be the better way to go.

I most likely will start with a crew cab and swap the doors from a donor truck. My biggest worry is how involved the wiring will be. It's definitely easier to start with a crew cab and only have wiring to mess with as opposed to wiring AND body work.
