steering stabilizer

Hey all, does anyone know where I can find a good steering stabilizer that doesn't loose ground clearance and is even all the way across?

Thanks, been looking at this with the Fox 2.0 I think that's the one. Does it hang low, like below the axle to clip on a rock, also is it straight across even with the tie rod? I've seen some that are all over the place and looks horrible. Thanks

The Bilstein probably hangs a little but not lower than the pumpkin. I go through some pretty gnarly terrain around elk camp where other trucks with bigger tires get hung up and I've never had any issue. Keep your tires in the right place and minor differences in clearance at the axle aren't relevant.

Here is thread on using a Bilstein as stock replacement. Has some handy images and measurements regarding location.

If you want clearance then the PMF may be a better option.

I've also seen Tough Dog on a YouTube channel from a guy in Commiefornia.

My 2000 didn't come with a steering stabilizer or the hardware when I bought it many years ago.

I acquired the OEM hardware and installed the Bilstein stabilizer and from what I remember it sits level and well above the front differential.

If you’re steering components are working properly you should not need a stab. The stab should be used to absorb road feedback that could go into the steering wheel rather than tighten up play in other components. I’d go through the front end before replacing the stabilizer, fix worn parts then add the stab if you want it. I wouldn’t spend big bucks on one either, in the Jeep community we always recommend the cheapest one.

Side note: Check your pitman arm for cracking or signs of stress especially if you were playing hard in the rocks.

I agree with Colorado350. It should help but not make that much of a difference if it stops working.

Any steering stabilizer should be horizontal and not hang too low. It is in front of the axle housing so will take damage no matter what you get. I usually get whatever is on sale (Rancho, Pro Comp, etc.) and use that until it dies. Just make sure that it's a stabilizer and not a shock. They aren't that expensive but I've had off-road shops try to sell me a cheap shock to go there. That's great (the steering stabilizer is a horizontal shock) but it's not designed to work horizontally. I off-road a lot so I don't think I went more than 18 months or so with any one since it takes battle damage on the trails.

I'm not sure how big your tires are with your 6" lift but you might want to consider a dual setup if they're bigger than 35".

As the new smell was leaving my truck, I noticed lots of shake in the steering. I made some calls about getting it fixed.
In my last call, i spoke to a dealership and the counter guy said we needed to talk in person.
After having a stabilizer added (under warranty) all my shake went away.
The counter guy said dealerships are not allowed to suggest stabilizers unless customers complained (I did).
He said this is an item Ford chose to leave off in order to save company money (do not loose future sales over it).

That's good to know. I think my truck might be to old for the dealership to replace. Plus I'm going to go with dual. It needs help going straight.
