Programming a Spare Intelligent Access Key
Programming a Spare Intelligent Access Key
I’d like to buy a 3rd key but I’m confused by the procedure in my printed manual and the latest online manual. During the process they tell you to insert & remove the key from the ignition. There is no ignition that I know of. The key fob has the steel blade used for locking or unlocking the doors, glove box, console, spare tire access lock but I don’t know of a place to plug it in to serve as the ignition. What am I missing? I’ve copied the manual text below:
1. Place the first programmed key in the backup slot (A) in the center console, then press the push button ignition switch. Insert the first previously programmed coded key into the ignition.
2. Wait five seconds and then press the push button ignition switch again. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
3. Remove the intelligent access key. Switch the ignition off and remove the first coded key from the ignition.
4. Within 10 seconds, place a second programmed intelligent access key in the backup slot. Press the push button ignition switch. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of switching the ignition off, insert the second previously coded key into the ignition.
5. Wait five seconds and then press the push button ignition switch again. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
6. Remove the intelligent access key. Switch the ignition off and remove the second previously programmed coded key from the ignition.
7. Place the unprogrammed intelligent access key in the backup slot and press the push button ignition switch. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of switching the ignition off and removing the previously programmed coded key, insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition.

I don't have my manual handy, but if you look at the picture it shows you where to lay the fob. You must have 2 fob's / key's already coded have both in the vehicle follow the directions. you must use the programmed key's first then the un-programmed key last of all. You can program it as a master or as a My Key with limitations on it. I think it goes in the from compartment with the sliding door, if I remember correctly, the same place you put it if the battery dies on it.
I think I'll order a key and just ignore the instructions that mention the ignition & key. I've watched youtube videos of other Ford models being programmed and they don't mention the ignition.
Thanks for all the replies.
As I mentioned at the start of my post, the directions for programming an additional intelligent access key for my 2019 instructs you to insert a physical key (not the Fob) into the “ignition” and turn the ignition off and on at various times. This is in addition to pressing the “push button ignition switch” and placing the “intelligent access key” into the backup slot at various times.

Below is the correct procedure for my truck. I tried placing the Fobs in the backup slot with the unlock button end up, buttons facing forward and the unlock button end up, buttons facing rear. Neither worked. When I placed it upside down (unlock button at the bottom) with the buttons facing forward I had success. For $77 I now have a functioning third key.

To add on, I removed the hard keys from the fobs and placed the fobs button side up.
if you do it properly after the second key is in slot and start buttons is pushed, you will get display showing keyless entry code on dash. That means you’re in programming mode.

I didn't notice if the dash displayed the keyless entry code so I tried it again and my 150 does not display the keyless entry code. Maybe because I didn't have an unprogrammed fob in the truck?
It also sounds like for your 350 you lay the fob horizontal. On mine the fob is vertical.
i dont remember that there were multiple process errors.
Here’s what I posted on the SuperDuty site
Needed or wanted an extra key for the 2019 F-150. Used for biking, outside activity, etc. - just need to get back in and start vehicle if necessary. Local locksmith accomplished this for about $100 and said he was happy his new equipment could do it. No FOB on this key but it does retract in as original. All we wanted and it starts the truck fine and unlocks the doors manually from outside.
For my new 2019 F150 XLT with remote start I bought a spare Flip key from https://www.carandtruckremotes.com/2...furbished.html
New ones are $59 an refurbished are $49. I bought the refurbished ones. They come with uncut. I then took the key to the local Ford dealer and they cut it for $5. It took me total of 30 seconds to program it to the truck using the instructions in the manual. You need 2 original programmed keys to program an additional key yourself. If you don't have 2 already programmed keys you will need to go to a dealership or locksmith to do the programming. .

Now I have 3 programmed key s if I loose one I can program another myself and avoid having to go to the dealer.

I had the same confusion initially. Finally just did as suggested above and just treated placing the FOB in the back up slot as "key in the ignition", and the process worked fine. So basically the same process as we've been doing all the way back to the PATS keys, they just got too lazy to clarify the manual for the new intelligent access keys.
You saved me a lot of time and aggravation, whoever wrote the instructions in the manual should be reassigned (or taken out and shot).
This was fast and easy, after wasting 30 minutes pulling my hair out like the original poster for same reasons. If you lived near me I would buy you a beer.
THANKS
