I have what appears to be a 302 trying to get a handle on what year it’s out of an 81 f150 but we no it is not original. Trying to insure we use the right flywheel. There is no casting number on the side of the block. All I can find is what I would call a rebuilders tag and it reads
fdsfm302dcp 4180310020
any help would be appreciated.

The block casting number is above the starter, you may have to remove the starter to see it. See below.
Even if you have the casting number doesn't the flywheel & balancer go by the crank / rods / pistons used?
I do not know for sure but could you look at the balancer and the flex you took off to see how it is balanced?
You may have to search the web to see what one looks like for each balance to be sure what you need.

It doesn’t matter now engine is in an runs. The spot where the casting number is supposed to be is slick as a babies butt. Nothing there. Used the later flywheel.

Did the engine have a 1pc rear main seal?
Sometimes there is a partial VIN stamped in the flat horizontal pad behind the intake manifold, and it will tell you the year....if it has been stamped.
