Alright so I have a 1999 F250 Super Duty. I’m having issues with it changing gears. I just swapped the neutral safety switch, and it has helped slightly. I can start the truck in park but it won’t shift to any other gears. If I start it in neutral, I can drop it into other gears, but the moment I put it in park, it won’t shift out of it. I’ve read about the shift tube, and mines a little loose, but could that be it? The torx bolts are all tight, top and bottom side.
Do your brake lights work? Usually, this problem is a bad brake light switch. The TRS (Transmission Range Switch, the thing you called the neutral safety switch) has nothing to do with getting it out of park.

Yes they work . A brake light switch would keep my truck from shifting out of park into other gears?
There is a solenoid that holds the shifter in park unless the brake lights are on. If the brake lights work then it may be a bad solenoid in the steering column.

I mean unless I have really bad luck, I just swapped steering columns because of this issue and another which I fixed.
how would I tell? Shift cable is what goes down to the tranny right?
Yes it is. I would unhook it from the trans and see if it moves freely . Also see how it lines up with the trans where it connects with shifter and trans while in neutral. Also check the neutral safety at same time.

None of that could cause it to not come out of park.

You are absolutely right Mark! I was just thinking of if he is out of adjustment It's gotta be the interlock solenoid not releasing I mean it is the only logical answer. I took my interlock off my truck,. not sure if it was a good idea or not?
