So a year ago I installed some G2 Manual locking hubs. Worked good up until a few weeks ago. Now it seems like the front end never is disengaged. When i come to a stop i can hear/feel the front end groaning? got a new set of hubs from G2 and now im wondering if i should sell them and buy Warn hubs or just use the G2s again.
Or
Could it be something else that is making the noise? It happens when slowing down to a stop and when starting off, but isn't always there. Its not a ball joint popping or anyhting like that, feels rotational.
You can know right away if your hubs are locked by getting under the truck and spinning the axle by hand. When hubs are unlocked the axle should spin freely and when locked they won't.
I'm not familiar with G2 hubs so can't speak to using them but Warn's are good equipment. I'm running Super Winch but only engage 4WD a couple of times a year.
If you are moving straight, however, I don't think it should make any noise. If you find that your hubs ARE locked and you experience issues in a straight line then it sounds like a different problem - u joints (axles or driveshaft) could be a few things.
For new hubs; My Warn Premiums are going strong and issue free for 30k miles, just had the apart when I rebuilt my front axles - clean as a whistle. They cost twice as much but in my opinion you get what you pay for. My buddy here always buys cheap hubs "rugged ridge" - "mile marker" etc. and also always has issues with them. Never heard of G2 until today...
no idea what G2's are. my warn premiums have been on the truck for 11 years and around 90k miles.
remember though, even if you unlock the hubs they may still be engaged until you release pressure from them. i always back up 5 foot or so AFTER unlocking the hubs.

Haven’t engaged the hubs in months so ik it’s not that. I bought warn hubs though.
Definitely grab the Stub shaft and try to turn it. My truck lost the needle bearing that rides on the stub shaft and was engaged all the time. Soon after I found out it would lead to the inner axle seal failing. Reinstalling the carrier was the hardest job I’ve done on the truck you should definitely needs to be investigated further.

If they’ve been greased and serviced regularly you shouldn’t have to back up. Mine seem to disengage immediately.
