Rear end tag

I am trying to figure out what kind of rear end was put on my truck. I have a 1984 Ford F-250 extended cab utility truck, with a 351W C-6 tans. I was told it was a 1ton rear end but I can not make heads or tales of the tag that is on the rear end. A pic is included so any help would be great. I know its rusted a bit but thats the best I can do, I didnt want to loose any thing off it.

If the tag pic had been posted horizontally, I might have been able to read it.

As it is, there is an AXLE code stamped on this ID tag, but it's too faint to make out. Post what it is.

AXLE code printed on the Certification Label, glued to the left door face below the latch. Post what the code is.

1984 F250 could have a Ford 8.8" integral, Dana 60, Dana 61-1, Dana 70. 1980/84 F350 would only have a Dana 70.

Ford: E4TA-ADA ~ Dana: 605197-2 = Dana 61-1 Rear Axle / 4.10-1 / Limited Slip / 6,250 lbs. Axle Capacity.

1984/85 F250.

Now all I need to do is find what speedo gear I need, to make the spedo work normally or I should say read the proper MPH.

The formula for caluculating the driven gear number of teeth on the speedo cable is as such

# DRIVE TEETH x AXLE RATIO x TIRE REV. PER MI.
_____________________________________________ = # DRIVEN TEETH

1001

To calculate tire revs per mile

20168
_______________________________ = REVIOLUTIONS PER MILE

TIRE DIAMETER (in inches)

So lets say you had a tire diameter of 28.89" and 7 drive teeth on the trans drive gear.

So 20168 / 28.89= 698.096 And round to 698 tire Revs per mile.

So knowing that we can use the other formula

7 x 4.10 x 698 / 1001 = 20.012 and to round it to 20. So you need a driven gear with 20 teeth.

Parts catalog lists: C7SZ-17271-B .. 18T Speedometer DRIVEN gear with C6, 4.10 ratio with 2WD

There's no speedometer DRIVE gear, as it's made as part of the C6's output shaft.

The drive gear is just integral with the shaft. Part of the shaft or not there is still a drive gear. Can't turn the speedo gear without a drive gear.

Yes there is a DRIVE gear, but since it's made as part of the output shaft, it cannot be replaced.

If you need to change your gear to get your speedo correct, you pull driveshaft/tailshaft housing, then remove a little funky metal clip that is hard to replace which holds the plastic gear on your tailshaft. At least that's on a turbo 350, I haven't changed speedo gear in a C-6 before. the plastic gears in various colors (ratio) aren't that hard to find, but that little clip that holds it IS, be VERY careful with that clip. I lost mine and had to go beg several transmission shops before one finally sold me one.

Sorry, didn't read good before I posted, are you saying C-6 doesn't have removable plastic colored speedo gear on tailshaft of automatic?

C6 has a nylon speedometer DRIVEN gear at the end of the cable, but the C6 speedometer DRIVE gear is made as part of the output shaft (7060 in pic).

Thank you Bill, my bad. GM uses different nylon gears on the tailshaft held on by hardened metal half moon spring clip.
