axle help

I have a 84 f250 6.9 idi and after some searching I found that the rear axle is a Dana 3.55 #6300. Does this mean that it is a 60 or 70. The door code is 73 and it is a full floater. Any help will be appreciated.

check the axle housing. dana stamps the model number on the pumpkin of all their axles. it will either say 60 or 70. or if its too covered in crud, you could pull the yoke and measure the pinion shaft diameter. a d60 will measure 1 5/8" and a d70 will be 1 3/4"

it depends on the axle. for the 60, i think its somewhere around the lower right side bracing web that goes from the housing to the tube and facing the rear. for the 70 i think its closer to the pinion, but dont hold me to either of those cause i cant remember 100% for sure off the top of my head. right now i have a ford 9 inch so i cant even go look at one to tell you and i know its different on each one. put it this way, if you find a 60 or a 70 stamped anywhere on the pumpkin housing, you can be pretty certain that is what it is.
as far as size, i dont really know what to tell you. its not huge, but if you're looking for it, you wont miss it cause its not really that small either.
