Detroit 6.2 L v8 Diesel engine

Hi everyone
I have just purchased the Chevrolet 6.2 L Diesel engine and I want to fit it into my Ford F-250 custom of 1979; are these going to be compatible or modifications needed on engine mounts or bell house?? Any advice will be appreciated.

Sounds like an unusual swap for around here, not sure you will find much advice. It's a near certainty you will need to modify both of those things along with a lot of other things to make something like this work since Ford never made one to begin with. Good luck.

Time, patience and money will be your friends along with a torch and welding equipment. Probably easier to shoe horn one into a Chevy.

That's a whole lot of work for not a whole lot of output. Leave the poor truck alone.

Do-able, yes, lots of work, yes. I'd imagine if you're going manual. you could build an NP435 with a Chevy input shaft and use a Chevy bellhousing, Ford from there back. Custom motor mounts, then hook everything else up. When you get done, though, you're going to have a fairly anemic time-bomb of an engine in a really solid pickup. For the work involved, a 4BT Cummins would make a LOT more sense to me......

WHAT? The black smoke from that thing will kill all the grass on the daily route toand from your compound. Those things have all died around here, you point one at a hill and you have to speed up to stop.

yeah, ford builds a 6.7 i=on their own. Chevy built a 6.2... on their own. Then they went to asia 20 years ago to see just whatit would taketo fix that problem.

I had good luck with my 6.2
230k and 130k of that with a turbo, truck body fell apart before anythi g else did.
Most of the miles was pulling trailers.

But I would never try to put one in a non GM truck

The 6.2 diesel was pretty underpowered, like many engines of that era, but generally speaking they were reliable, good on fuel. Lots of farmers had them back in the day around this area (the chevy guys at least) and they all had good luck with them, with the rare exception. That being said they also had to be used like they were in a half ton, so light duty. I think most of the issues happened when guys actually tried to work them hard.

If I were to swap to a diesel, I would swap a cummins 6bt, and beef up the front suspension a little. You likely wouldnt even have to beef up the suspension as guys have hooked up plows and whatnot to the front of the f250s which would weigh more.
